Please share pics of engagement rings with diamonds that are set high (prong head, mounted on band, etc.).

For those of you that have rings that have a "high setting" (diamond mount), do you hate it? I chose a setting I really liked, but now I am afraid the diamond will sit up too high. Help!

My old marquise ring sat soooo high. I bought the ring second hand so I had no say in the matter. It bothered me as I am a particular Patty about my rings, but honestly it wasn't noticeable from the casual observer. And it made the stone look huge! My mom wears it now, and I do not notice how high it sits, just how nice it looks.

So I can understand it may bug you, but worse case, it probably won't be noticeable to others, and it'll make your diamond look big :)

Thanks! I just don't want to bang the diamond around. :)

My pear sits high at 11 mm (depth of diamond is 4.83 mm) and sometimes it is difficult to put rubber gloves on to wash the dishes. Same problem with fleece gloves during the winter time. My CBI diamond sits lower at 7 mm (depth of diamond is 5.16 mm) and it is a lot easier to get gloves on.

A ring I had a few years ago was set high. I also loved it. My stone looked huge! I love a big diamond so I was extremely happy with the setting. The ring I wear now is set lower and I miss the higher setting.

CallieCake,

Did you knock it into stuff very often? You really don't like the lower setting as much? :)

When I was working I took my rings off as soon as I came home at night. I also don't were them if I am cleaning or gardening.

I do remember knocking it on a file cabinet at work once in a great while. I never damaged the stone or anything. Is your fear that you will bang the diamond?

Do you think it makes the stone look huge? My ring had a 2.20 radiant (emerald shaped) diamond and it really looked larger in the setting. I was often asked if the stone was 3 carats.

My original ering was a princess set in platinum with channel set princess stones, I twisted the head of the ring once by knocking it and also ruined the channel set stones and caused a gap in them. My next ring was bezel set and bright cut pave and I've had no problems after nearly 9 years of wear. If you go the high setting route insure it!

IMO...a high setting does make the diamond look bigger, but it is also easier to get caught on your clothes and hit the door jamb of your car.
