High color OMCs for your viewing pleasure

Hi fellow bling lovers, I wanted to share some pics of some higher colored OMCs that I had a chance to see IRL recently. I don't often get to see these and the way these higher cooors reflect light is so interesting that this might be a useful post for reference. First a 3.51 Carat G, VS OMC. All four of the above pics are the same stone. The faceting looked really pretty and the Maltese cross was not at all overwhelming. It kinda looked like a cushion shaped OEC. But when I put an OEC next to it, i could clearly see the difference. The flashes of light were various shades of white, not as much colored reflections from what I could see. But because I do love white stones in general I really liked it. However if you asked me if I preferred this kind of color to the reflections of warmer colored OECs, I honestly would be torn. I would be very curious what others prefer. Now that I look back on the videos again, I think I see a bit less obvious fire on the higher color. Or maybe the fire isn't as colorful...

The bottom pic of the above post is they color I observed the most while I wore this ring. It almost seemed too white at times, but that may be because I am so accustomed to my warmer K. I am adding two pics of mine to remind myself and to compare. I did not have my ring while I visited this jeweler. I think the faceting of my stone is crisper but that may be because the store ring was not clean enough.

Next is another old mine cut. GIA called this Old Mine Brilliant. 2.25 G, VS2. The cut is very weird but the stone was very pretty. It had four very discernible large diamond shaped facets across the middle of the stone and the culet was long and skinny in the middle of the stone. When the moved the stone, a horizontal band of white diamond shaped facets across the middle of the stone would catch your eye. The top and bottom of section of the stone would not reflect much might, just some small colorful pinpoint reflections. This was interesting because I found it at a super high end designer store, Martin Katz, where all the stones were MRBs, radiants, ECs, halos (without any tilt) displayed in little windows, like at Graff. The platinum work was excellent and the prongs were fabulous. They said these were hand crafted, non-cast pieces.

And since we are talking about high colors, here are some pics of a GIA D, VVS1 (or was this an IF, @JDDN, I am not sure I remember correctly) antique emerald cut. Now this was STUNNING. It was about 4 carats but I forget exactly.

Hi @Snowdrop13 the band is single cuts, beadset, by Victor Canera. Thank you. I love it and wear it everyday. the plain band is from him as well. I have gotten very accustomed to the fire from MK (my stone) and I love her. I am not sure if I would trade her for the G. I should have such problems.

I was in Beverly Hills and wandered through lots of stores. The 3.51 G (first stone I posted) was from a store that had estate and modern pieces. Jewelerette and Co. it was priced at $98K which seems a bit high for me. But given that head high color old cuts are hard to find, and the faceting was really very nice, it's not completely outrageous. It was not GIA graded but I would think G was not out of the realm of possibility. They had a pretty 1.5 carat OEC, which was in an original setting, which I did not bother with because the setting killed it. And this gorgeous beauty kept me distracted. Look at this shot of their display case. Which stone catches your eye right off? Bam! I was in there in two seconds flat. Surprisingly they were quite knowledgeable about old cuts.

Here is a perspective shot of the other G. (Martin Katz) This did seem over priced to me at $48k for 2.25 carats. I don't think the cut would appeal to all old Ct lovers because the band at the top and bottom just wasn't very lively. However the middle facets that you can see clearly make the diamond very interesting.


The D antique EC was at Shreve and Company in San Francisco.

Ha, based on the photos (as seen on my monitor) would never have guessed the first ring's diamond is G-colored...would have thought J/K...if I were in the market for it, I'd request a GIA certificate on that one before purchasing.

I think it was an IF stone and the price was $550,000!!! Yup......a little over half a million dollaroos for that one, LOL. It was totally stunning. It's an original antique Tiffany ring if I remember correctly .

Hi m-2-b, thank you for your kind words. So I will confess that this is the reason I was in Beverly Hills. I finally committed and dropped off my ring with Victor. I had a quote, sat on it for a couple of months, played around with three other different setting ideas and came back to the original with some tweaks. It had to hash out the details in person before I could proceed. We didn't agree on everything and had to speak plainly to know where each person was coming from and why. Then we could come to an agreement. We did this on almost every aspect of the design. My DH and I were there for almost two hours. Communication is key and Victor was very patient and understanding and willing to spend the time to make sure we got on the same page. I am looking forward to how it all turns out. It will be a while though. I am steeling myself for a two month wait.
