Hello!
I just joined the forum and had a question regarding "estimated retail replacement value".
I purchased a ring with an appraisal card that says est. retail replacement value on it.
Does that mean I can sell the ring for that amount?
Thanks in advance!

Hi, and welcome!

No, sorry! That "value" is for insurance purposes only. You might be lucky to get half that if you sold it! If the "replacement value" is a lot more than you actually paid, then I would try to insure using the sales receipt and diamond certificate if possible. You don't want to overpay insurance premiums based on an inflated value.

Hi and welcome! :wavey:

No. You are not a retail seller. You are a private seller. That's the first thing. Second, sad fact is the majority of appraisals that come with purchases are 'feel good' gimicks that aren't worth the paper they are written on. If you bought the ring retail, then your ring is worth what you paid. The 'feel good' card is nothing but an inflated value that will drive up your insurance rates and has the sole purpose of making you think you got more than what you paid for. And you know what they say... if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Well, that applies here.
