hi im in new york and i got a supposed 4ct diamond cross but some diamonds have some black marks on it I was told they are si quality but was told its more like I1/i2 quality diamonds, its about 0.075ct per stone totaling near 4ct how probably i quality and h/i color, how much aprox value are we looking at ? also im getting it appraised and they asked how much i paid for it, do they take how into consideration the price i paid when they do appraisal? the appraisal wasnt onsite for me to view it but im new to the diamond game and was just wondering thanks

An appraiser really should not ask you what you paid, but should arrive at their own opinion of value. You can always discuss what you actually paid after the appraiser has completed their work and given you their unbiased opinion, but otherwise, it is best to say as little as possible. Don''t try to influence the appraiser as it will make the entire process less credible.

Watch out for using the appraiser offered as "independent" by a seller. Often those appraisers are somewhat in the pocket of the firm recommending them. Sometimes this isn''t the case, but how can you separate who is and who isn''t biased? Why take such a chance?

Can you still return it? I have had the same thing happen to me with diamond earrings. They were represented as Si but were really I clarity. So I am extremely careful who I buy diamonds from now! Unfortunately I waited too long and couldn''t return mine. But I''d return your pendant in a heartbeat if it was misrepresented.

well I got a good deal so not sure what I would do, i left it at the jewekry store because the gemologist picks up the jewelry to appraise once a week but when i dropped it off they asked how much i paid and where it was purchased etc. i dont know if they will disclose that information to the gemologist? its multiple stones like 45 diamonds totalling near 3.85ct so whats your opinion on i quality diamonds are they really junk? how much depreciation is it from si diamonds? like 30% dropoff i heard?

You really should not have another jewelry store do the appraisal. Unbiased appraisals need to be done by someone who does not sell jewelry.

You need an independant appraiser. Not one that does work for the jewelry store in question. My question to you is do you like the cross pendant?? Can you live with the black specs?? If so keep it, if not get a refund.

I didn''t get appraisal from same store i bought the cross, its a different store.

Is it a big price difference from si to i quality diamonds? like 30% less i heard?

Yes, I1 clarity would be worth less than SI. But how much may depend on the size of the diamonds, etc. I think the main issue is whether you love the piece of jewelry as it is. If you don''t, return it. If you do, keep it. We see few really great deals around here..you usually get what you pay for. It would bother me that the seller was dishonest in representing the quality to you.
