Hello ladies,

I have lurked on here several times and have finally decided to join this wonderful forum. A little background on me: my bf and I have been together for 5 years. We met Summer of 2005 when he was in town on business. Several months later, he relocated to my state so that we could be together. Doing so caused him some financial difficulties, which has made it difficult for him to be able to afford a nice engagement ring, wedding, etc. I am a grad student, so I currently have no income either.

Currently he is saving for my engagement ring and he wants us to begin planning our wedding and putting a book together to get an idea of what it will cost. We have flip-flopped between getting a designer ring, such as HW, or going for a larger/non-designer ring. Either way, he is set on getting me something special BUT saving for is taking too long! :((

We have gone ring shopping dozens of times and have chosen several rings, but if I want to be engaged sooner rather than later, I think I'm going to have to re-evaluate the type of ring I want and try to talk him out of getting something too over the top. I'm just getting frustrated with the whole process. It feels like this "saving" period is never going to end. I've entertained different ideas, such as getting a "stand-in" ring and upgrading to my official engagement ring when he is able to afford it or just getting an engagement ring I may not exactly be happy with and instead getting an amazing designer wedding band? For now, I have a feeling I will be here longer than I would like. 8)

However, in the time being, I'm happy to be a part of LIW and look forward to chatting with all you wonderful ladies. :))

FuturePsyD eh?? How is grad school going for you? What would you like to do when you're finished?

Welcome to the forum!! Hope your wait isn't too long!!

Hi! :wavey:

Welcome to LIW! Hope your stay is short, but sweet!

If you go over on RockyTalky a lot of people have replicas of designer rings that are AWESOME and much more budget friendly...the folks over there can help you design a great ring!

and welcome :)

Welcome! We know how you feel sitting around waiting for this- so you picked a good place to hang out! Go for a replica of a major designer and get the bigger ring!

Welcome, Welcome. Ill add you to the list on friday. Hopefully you wont have to wait too long.

Hello and welcome :wavey: You've come to the right place  hope your wait isn't too long!

Welcome! You have been with your SO the same amount if time and me ... summer of 05. Feels like forever doesn't it?!?! Hope you find the ring of your dreams soon. Educating yourself on PS is a great way to found a quality stone and setting on a budget. Best of luck. *~DUST~*

Good evening ladies!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Despite the circumstances, I'm happy to be here!

I have definitely been leaning towards having a "designer-inspired" ring made with a larger stone. It recently hit me that if I wait for my dream ring, I may be waiting for a looong time and my patience has just worn thin. I'm definitely going to educate myself further on this.

Kateydid05: Grad school is going great! Thankfully, I have only 1 more year to go. BUT then I have to finish my 3000 post-doc internship hours and take my licensing exam before I'm an official "Psy.d" The long term goal is to have a private practice.

Glitz n Glam: So you guys have been together for 5 years also? When in the Summer of 05 did you guys become an official couple? Our first date was in July 05. And I'm right there with you that it is beginning to feel like FOREVER!! We've been through a lot and I'm happy we've made it this long, but I'm just over the stage of "dating." To make matters worse we don't live together, so it's just becoming too much of a headache! I'm ready to move on with or without a Harry Winston. :))

Jesse: thank you for the add!

Hi Future PsyD! Another PsyD here! It's well worth the work!
Best of luck with your wait, I know how hard it is!

Hi Pesce: Are you working on your Psy.D or are you done? :)) It is a lot of working getting there, especially all the hours, but you're right that it's worth it! Its a rewarding field that I'm very proud to be a part of.

As for our wait, it most certainly is difficult! Lets just say if I was a man and I had found "the one", I would try to propose ASAP so that my gf wouldn't have to go through this torturous wait.

DUST to us all!!! :))

Welcome PsyD! I saw your other thread in RT, seems like you have a tough but really fun decision to make. There are some great options available no matter which way you go, just don't forget to post back here when you choose!

Hope you're not a LIW too long!

:wavey: Welcome FuturePsyD! I hope you dont have to wait too long

Welcome! Feel free to come here and gripe or tell us about all your exciting updates!

I am in my last year of undergrad. So, I know how you feel about not having much money. BF has also been trying to save for my dream ring for what seems like forever. Neither of us are into the idea of upgrades, but I hate having to wait so long for him to save the money. We are both relatively still young, both of us will be 22 soon. So I know that waiting a little longer wouldn't "hurt" (except for the LIW torture I will still be feeling) either of us. I have occasionally toyed with the idea of a smaller ring, but I think I would be happier waiting just a little longer to be able to have my dream ring.

I also agree with everyone else that you should look into the PS vendors and look at getting maybe a replica or something custom made. It may actually be a lot cheaper than you would think!

Hello again! Thanks again for the welcomes!

Vintagelover: Hello!!! Thank you! I hope your wait is short and sweet as well!

Calibali: Hi there! Yes, I certainly do have a tough choice. I would have more fun with it if I weren't feeling so anxious about getting it all over with and moving to the next stage of our relationship. I kinda feel like settling just so I can be done with it. But whatever I choose, I will certainly share the story and pictures with all the LIWs. But don't expect this anytime soon ;))

PrincessNatalie: Hi, yes my avatar is definitely the HW!! Thanks for the link, the halo rings are really beautiful!!! There are so many designers that make lovely micropave halos. I'm just such a fan of HWs micropave that I really fear I will be unhappy with a replica. If I go with a nondesigner ring, I think I will probably go with a different style altogether. I just don't want to spend my life picking apart and comparing my ring to HWs

Mayflowers: congrats on your last year of undergrad. It will fly by!! You are still so young, so its great that you are patient enough to wait a bit longer so you can have your dream ring! You certainly have time, but I realize that once you find the right person, you want to just have it happen as soon as possible. How long have you and your bf been together? And what is your dream ring? The saving process is certainly so frustrating, b/c its only a matter of money thats keeping us from your goal
My bf and I are both 30, so i'm REALLY ready to just get on with it.

I will definitely be bringing my frustrations and hopefully good news as well to share on LIW!!

We have been together for 3 1/2 years now. Since I am still in school, I hardly work at all and I want to wait for us to get engaged because I want to also be able to afford the nice things I want for my wedding. My parents will be helping us pay for it, but if for some reason I find like my dream dress and it's over their budget, then I will pay for the difference myself. Currently, I don't have the means to be able to do that. BF went to college, but only got his Associate's degree. He has been advancing pretty steadily at his job, but still makes less than he should. Then again, who doesn't?

My dream ring is a 1 carat to a 1.25 carat RB in a solitaire setting. Sometimes I change my mind and think that that size is too big, but I think for a forever ring, bigger is always better  . I want a setting that is a little different, something that you don't see everyday. I love Mark Morrell settings, but that is a bit out of budget. I also really love BGD's Grace, and this setting that BGD did custom for another PSer. Here is the link https://www.pricescope.com/communit...n-gavin-setting.146435/#post-2641555#p2641555. I love love love this setting, and if it fits into our budget when the time comes, I will certainly ask BGD to give us a quote to remake that setting.

I originally wanted the HW micropave too! The main reason I started reading PS was because of AngelainJapan's original HW posts. But the more time I spent here, the more I realized that I would appreciate a custom version just as much, and that I would really want my BF to have a hand at picking out the specific center stone using all of the tools available--asets, different kinds of light, etc. As you've heard, there's a lot of variation in cushions out there! Not to sound like a broken record (I know the posters on RT mentioned this to you), but I think I'd now prefer a 1-1.5 carat AVC from GOG, in a custom setting by Leon Mege, with some sort of special, personal detail from my BF that I would never expect--like an inscription inside the band.

I understand your hesitancy about going with a non-HW version, if your heart is set on the real thing. I also know that you're not into the vintage cuts, like I am. Still, I learned a TON about cushions on the GOG website. So, if you haven't spent time on there, I'd highly recommend it.

Lots of ***DUST*** to you too!
