Hi. :) so after a month of doing some good research.
I feel like I am at a crossroads. On one hand I have a nice
Ags triple 0 .75 round diamond. G vs1 All the specs look great. It was cut by lazare. Scored a 1.1 on the hca. And I have seen it with my own eyes. It sparkles real nice but is selling in the Store for $4700. On the other side I have many ideal hearts and arrows out there on james Allen and white flash and blue Nile. Etc. Selling considerably less with the same specs. What advice do you guys have? All of the online companies I mentioned have good return polices. I would love some reassurance one way or the other. Thanks
Jonas :)

Re: hi guys. looking for some help in buying my diamond. tha

If you're happy to buy online (and I don't think there'd be an issue in using any of the vendors you'd find on PS), it makes sense to pay less for a stone with the same specs or the same amount for a larger/whiter/cleaner stone.

You might have to buy and return a few stones, but if you save money or get more stone for your money in the long run, it'd be worth it. I spent a lot of time with James Allen when I was looking and they were really helpful since they actually had the stones in their inventory and were able to vet them for me. (In the end I didn't buy from them because I found an old cut that I preferred, but if I were to buy another decently-sized stone in the future, I would go to JA first.)

Lots of people on PS also have good things to say about Good Old Gold and ID Jewelry -- you can call them and tell them what you want and your budget and they'll look for something for you.

You could also try to haggle with the store -- take some quotes for identical stones in and ask if they can match the JA, WF, etc., prices. It's worth a try!

price seems in line with online H&A diamonds? it sounds like a beautiful diamond :)

Re: hi guys. looking for some help in buying my diamond. tha

Can you give us a particular on-line diamond you are talking about. The $4700 seems pretty in line with what I'm seeing
on-line too for a G/VS1. You could drop down to a VS2 or eye-clean SI1 H colored stone if you want a little more size.

Re: hi guys. looking for some help in buying my diamond. tha

When I get a. Chance ill show some of the ones I see on there. At work now. If I did decide to go the route of ordering online and then perhaps sending a few back before I was totally 100% satisfied, what would it cost per transaction with shipping etc? Thanks guys :)

Re: hi guys. looking for some help in buying my diamond. tha

There is no reason whatsoever to have to order multiple stones and return them if you are ordering an excellent/ideal cut stone to begin with. You should be able to get it right on the first try!

The closest match I can find is this:

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2777285.htm $4382 for .725 G VS1.

So the one you are looking at is only a little overpriced.

You can save a little more if you go to G VS2:

This one is on hold but was priced at $4390, which is quite good since it is .78:

Ha! Great job. The first one u told me from whiteflash Is one of the ones I was going to post. Great job! Here is another question. If I go lower to a vs2. Obviously in the close up pics I can see the more feathers, clouds, etc. But would I see it from just an eye view? Or does it depend on the diamond. I guess better question. What is the lowest grade 100% eye clean? :) if thatmakes sense :) thanks!

It's not the grade that makes the stone eyeclean but rather the stone itself and the placement and number of inclusions. You have to look at each stone and when ordering online, you can get the vendor's assessment of whether or not they think the stone is eyeclean. Just beware that everyone has a different opinion of eyeclean so in the end, it's your assessment of a stone that matters. As long as you are dealing with vendors with good return policies, you'll not get stuck with a stone that you don't love.

Re: hi guys. looking for some help in buying my diamond. tha

I am sure that WF will tell you if a VS2 stone is 100% eyeclean, and ask them to look at it from the sides, too. VS1 will virtually always be totally eyeclean. VS2 often is but not always. I say that because I once had a .75 VS2 stone that did have an inclusion visible from the sides. I didn't mind, though, because it was in an earring so no one could see it.

Re: hi guys. looking for some help in buying my diamond. tha

gotcha.. so when ordering online i am allowed to ask them if they house the diamond to take it out and look at it and give me their opinions... didnt realize that but obviously that is very valuable. I must say this process sure is interesting and exciting. I am trying not to overthink it but i feel all my quesitons and concerns are valid when spending this kind of $$ for a young guy like me without oodles of $$ to burn. i just want that sucker to sparkle like no other.. you know??

I live in tampa and it would have been cool if there was like a warehouse here where you could see tons of stones side by side but i guess it doenst actually work like that. I think in the end i might go ahead and get one from online. Like a whiteflash or allen. I see the reviews of them are solid, and i like the fact that i can get it. take it to get apprasied. do every lighting test i want on it, and if for any reason im not sold, i can send it back. i really like that feeling of comfort. I will keep everyone posted as the process goes on..
:)
