Hi everyone
I am new, I am a little stress out, maybe a lot. I don''t know what to do. My ring is white gold but is turning yellow more every day. I read a post of (Irina) today that she post around April about a situation she had with a Jeweler store in Woodbridge mall I don''t know the rules of the forum so, I am not going to mention the name. I bought my ring on that store and I went today to bring my ring to talk about why is getting yellow and the store was close, but when I said close I mean like out of business. My situation with that store was not different than Irina’s situation I deal with them since the end of October until beginning of April just to get my ring. I went to the store more than 15 times and every time I went something was wrong with ring. The main thing was that one side of the ring was wider than the other and every time I told them to fix it they did something else in the ring but that.

Please can someone give an advice?

Irina tell me what happen they give you the money back at the end or no

PS. My natal language is Spanish, so I also apologize for the grammar mistakes.

White gold turns yellow and must be rhodium plated periodically. Don''t worry, just because it turned yellow doesn''t mean you were duped.

And if this is more helpful,

Oro blanco cambia a amarillo con tiempo. Hay que tratar lo con rhodium. Es tipico. No se procupa. Encuentra otra joyeria, ellos rhodium plate para ud.

Sorry, my spanish is rusty.

Sweetie, many white gold rings turn yellow eventually, because they are made with yellow gold. They have to be rhodium plated every so often to keep them shiny white looking. Just take your ring to another jeweler and ask for rhodium plating. It shouldn''t cost too much, and you''ll likely have to do it again through the years. Your old jeweler may have done some work on the ring and just did not replate it before returning it to you, so that could have made it worse.

I agree. It probably just needs to be re-plated. I'd find another local jeweler to take it too and ask them about it. It should only cost you around $30 or so. Try to find a jeweler that is privately owned rather than a chain/mall store if you can. I've found them to be a little more friendly and helpful most of the time.

Thanks a lot for the replies.

I though that maybe they did something wrong because I have my solitary ring which I bought 4 years ago in another Jeweler in my country and I never took to do any rhodium plate and still looks like white gold. I use them both every day and the wedding band that I bought in the Woodbridge mall is turning yellow more every day. Since the second day that I had it on my finger, but since I wait for 6 months to get the ring and I didn’t want to deal with the store again for all the trouble they put me trough, I decided to wait until now. I guess that diamond seeker is right and make sense why started turning yellow the day after I put it on. Now I think I will loss the warranty because is no other store in New Jersey.

I''m so sorry sweetie, but like everyone else said, white gold can turn yellowish on some people depending on the white gold mixture and your body chemistry. As for why you have a WG ring that has not turned yellow like this ring, well likely the white gold mixture is different.

I think one issue we have when we describe "color" like "yellow" is that it can vary greatly. I am by no means an expert in metals, but I am under the impression that white gold, on average should never really have a strong or noticeable "yellow" tint. The metal should be more or less whitish throughout. Here is a post where cutnut, an experienced jewler, responded to a siimilar question:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/did-we-get-ripped-white-gold-turned-yellow.2310/=

Here is a link a friend pointed to when I was talking to him about this issue, he is a watch Connoisseur so referred me to post in a watch forum rather than a jewelry forum, but I believe this illustrates the subtle differences between platinum & white gold and shows what a high quality white gold piece should look like:
http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=msg&goto=1178936&rid=0#msg_1178936

I can''t imagine a good white gold piece looking any more "yellow" than the watch clasp shown in the watch forum post, and I believe it is even stated that a rhodium plate was not used on that watch clasp.

So the question I would ask is, is your ring really showing yellow, like a 10K or 14K yellow gold piece of jewelry? or is it more or less a white metal (like silver or platinum) but looking sort of warmish?
To the experts out there, is it cheaper to create a white gold alloy with less palladium or rhodium or whatever other "white" metal is used and just plate it with rhodium? There definitely seems to be a broad range of "quality" in alloys, like the watch clasp in the above link which does not require rhodium plating and does not seem like it will ever show any more color than you see vs. other alloys that are yellowish in tint, and depend on a rhodium plate to give it it''s "white" luster. To a layman like me, it sounds like white alloy throughout=high quality & yellower alloy throughout=lower quality. I am, of course not sure if this is how it works in the jewely industry. Logically it makes sense to me, but you never know! If material and manufacturing costs are higher to produce a white alloy throughout vs. a yellower alloy, than I guess that would confirm the above.

To the other posters that replied to the original question, what do you guys mean by white gold eventually turns yellow? What would a reference point of "yellow" be?

Here I attached a picture of my ring.
Even in the picture you can see is definitively different color from my other ring.
For me looks like yellow.
I saw the watch pictures and even those look like pinkish color but not yellow.
I think they gave me a bad product.
