Hi everyone,
I''m new to this forum and I''m in the market to trade up my diamond wedding ring. I saw these posts when i did a search and wanted to know everyone''s thoughts. Would $6,000 really be enough money to buy around a 1.7 carat solitaire? I saw these when i searched here:

thanks for your input,

Hi Hera and welcome!

EGL graded diamonds generally go for cheaper than GIA or AGS graded, use the search tool above for more info and opinions on EGL vs GIA or AGS. 6K is very cheap for such a large diamond, use the Pricescope your Diamonds tool also to search for similar and you will see what the prices of GIA and AGS ( most recommended) actually are, which is considerably more in most cases.

Also there is not enough info to make a choice, you need the crown and pavillion angles also and EGL uses percents only which aren't as accurate, also these are not in house diamonds so they would need to be called into your vendor to see how they look and if eyeclean - there is a fair chance an SI2 grade in this size may not be eyeclean. Opinions differ regarding EGL which is why I suggest the search, some consider them to be soft on grading, so an SI2 may actually be an I1, likewise with colour. It also depends on the branch of EGL too with EGL USA being said to be the most reliable, then the other divisions not so much.

Hi Hera,

Rather spend a little more and go for an SI1 - that way you are assured that the stone is eye-clean.

Well I don''t mind the grading as much. my current ring is a 1.29 round EGL h si2. my si2 is extrememly eye clean with a tiny tiny cloud being hidden by a prong. I wouldn''t want to really go below a h si2 if I were to go EGL. The cut and the color''s gonna be the most important. I know in that price range I''ll sacrifice somewhere. I just want to know if I''m being realistic in the price range to get something decent.

I think you will need to up the budget to get something decent( subject to what your ideas are). You may be able to get something with a nice make which is cut to traditional proportions if you can spend a bit more, but a Superideal cut is not possible for 6k.

I had a quick look and this came up, a nice make type of diamond with a possibly prongable inclusion, but even that is 9k.

A stunner from Wink, but smaller and a J colour, but that would be a great buy if you could throw a bit more in the pot, the J VS at the bottom of the page.

I was thinking about something like this around $6900.00 (it says that on pricescope but when i get to the webpage it say 7200.00) whiteflash
Item Code: 12559987
Is this a good stone?
. Report: EGL

Again we need more info and the crown and pavillion angles. This is probably not an in house diamond, so WF would have to call it in for analysis and to get the info needed, otherwise it is impossible to tell.

I will contact them to get all the info. Thanks for all your honest input!!
