I was just wondering...

In relation to a well cut diamond going dark under direct light. Would this happen to a well cut fake diamond (Obviously in want of better words)?

And can a diamond tester such as the link below work if the diamond is set in a platinum ring?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Andoer-Por...76&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=diamond+tester&psc=1

Thanks people.
Hope you're all well and my questions aren't thought to be too stupid.

Regards
Marty

We aren't allowed to discuss sims here, just diamonds and natural gems. Also, if you're buying an engagement ring PLEASE let your significant other know if you're buying a sim. Not disclosing that is a major deception.

Sim?

No its a natural diamond. I just want to fully check it my self.

Hi Marty -

I'm not answering your question here, because I don't know the answers. But I can give you some advice.

If you're buying from a private seller, ask that the stone be sent directly to a reputable appraiser (not someone in a store - someone who is independent whose business is only appraisals) and that the stone be appraised before payment is sent. This is not unusual, as there is virtually no 100% foolproof way you can ascertain that a diamond isn't a simulant if you're not trained to do so.

Does the stone you're considering have a GIA certificate? If it doesn't, then you must INSIST on appraisal; you're way too far out on a limb otherwise.

Good luck!

ETA Diamond testers have a terrible track record for being wrong. Don't use one. It will tell you nothing.
