I just saw your post about firearm forums. I''m in a similar situation. A female instructor in a handgun safety course I took last weekend suggested I look at this website for women for information about firearms.

Cornered Cat is run by a woman -- the same woman who runs a magazine about handguns -- and has great info. Look at the table of contents and go into the miscellanious section. She has a link to a discussion board called "women and guns" (plus a bunch of others that are more general).

I just took a look at the "Women and Guns" forum. (there is also a magazine). It looks great. I recognize one of the posters as the owner/instructor where I went to the class. She is a VERY well respected person in the firearms area.

I feel like I need to wear my Kevlar vest in this thread!

LOL

I''m not a gun enthusiast but I sometimes fantasize about learning to shoot for sport (not to hunt, just to become a markswoman). It looks so empowering and fun!

It is! Take a look at the "Women & Guns" forum I mentioned.

I''ve been enjoying it. The class last weekend was only my second time shooting -- ever -- and I did great. We went to the range again on Sunday and it was lots of fun starting at 3 yards and moving the target back each time as I got all of the bullets through the same little hole in the middle.

It really takes good hand/eye coordination and it is really satisfying to get the hole smaller and smaller. (my 3 yard target had about a 1 inch diameter, my 5 yard had just slightly larger -- each of those had about 12 bullets through the same hole)

Most ranges have different handguns you can rent to use while you are there if you don''t want to buy one. (I really like my Glock 22 -- very easy to use and comfortable to hold)

I think I''ll take a peek at those links! I want to become more comfortable around guns and handling them, and get my concealed carry permit. A friend and I took Hunter''s Saftey a few weeks ago and the instructors had several different guns and we each were able to handle them, load and unload dummy cartridges, and that part was a lot of fun.

Thank you so much! I will pop over there tonight and check it out!

BTW- Do you own a gun? Both DH and I got our CPL''s this past summer. He bought a Springfield Armory XDM .40 cal, and I just got a Walther PPS 9mm.... So much fun to shoot!

I just read the dry fire page, and it is so true! Practicing with an unloaded gun does help with feeling more sure of yourself!

BF used to be a marksman in the armed forces and was asked to do sniper training several times although he refused. He''s taken me to gun clubs before and I''ve shot some .22 rifels and done some clay pidgeon shooting, both of which I was pretty good at. In NZ it''s particularly difficult to legally be alowed to keep or use and hand gun (gun licence+ police in home interview + police checked gun safe of a certain type etc) so I never bothered with that. At the moment I''ve just been enjoying my Wednesday night lazertag get togethers
