Well, I worked my butt off all summer and I''m ready to purchase the diamond for my lovely gf. I have decided to trim the budget a little bit because I need to have some money for playing golf this fall while I''m not working as much...just kidding (but seriously). Please help me find a great deal online for a diamond with the following specifications:

Price - less than $2,100.00
Size - at least .78ct
Cut - round
Color - at least J (near colorless)
Clarity - at least S2, preferably higher

I realize there are all those other measurements to take into effect, but I don''t understand them to the point where I could make an educated decision. That''s where you all come in! I will keep up with this thread to the best of my abilities so please help me look for a good deal!

Do you guys have your heart set on a RB? Or are you open to others like cushions, radiants, pears, etc?

These are some that came up that was under your budget for fancy shapes. And the size are all around a carat. I wasn''t exactly sure if you had your heart set on a round brilliant or if size was something that was more important. This might not be what you''re looking for, but I just wanted to share what the other options are out there. Hope you guys don''t mind.

We do have our hearts set on the Round cut, we''ve already picked out the ring/setting together so I just need to get the stone.

Sorry guys, had to work really late last night and didn''t get a chance to do any digging. Today I have the afternoon off though and this is first on my to do list - with any luck I''ll have a diamond on its way shortly!
 
I am interested in this one, but I have a few more financial things to work out. This ring is listed as $1,850 plus I would wire the money saving 1.5% so that''s $28. Are there any other fees I need to be aware of? What should I expect to see as far as shipping is concerned?

I went to the local Jared to see if they have the ring in stock and they do. She said there is going to be a $100 mounting fee and I''m looking at another $90 for the warranty. Is the warranty something I should definitely get or should I purchase insurance (renter''s, housing, etc). She said it covers loose stones, cleaning, rhodium plating, etc. Suggestions?
 
Warranty is useless and you have to be meticulous in the checking schedule else it voids it, cleaning and checking you can usually do it for free, shouldn't them have a workmanship warranty for the setting? Just get an insurance for loose stones, it covers more things.

Also need to get a insurance for mounting. Jared probably will not cover stones not sold by them in the event of chipping it during mounting.

The stone looks good, request an Idealscope image from JA to confirm.

Ok, I will do that. I will have to think of what I will say to the sales rep ahead of time so she doesn''t shove the warranty down my throat and think I''m just being irresponsible and cheap for not getting it.

On another note, how do I request the Idealscope image? I looked all over that webpage...

Personally I would rather have a good insurance policy than a warranty.

Just call them or email them. Call being safer and faster.

I put the request in for the Idealscope image, she said it would be a few days. I''m not going to do the warranty with Jared so if I have everything correct I should be looking at:

$1,832 (diamond)
835 (ring + tax)
99 (mounting charge)
_______
$2,766 Total

Am I missing anything as far as ring purchases go? I do wish there wasn''t a mounting charge, I feel like if you''re buying their expensive ring they should put it together like you want it for free.

Also get an independent appraisal, not sure how good the workmanship and inspection of the finish product will be at Kays if you are not buying their warranty. This way, the independent appraiser will catch any fault in the setting that you might have missed.

Use this link to find a appraiser near you. https://www.pricescope.com/appr_list.aspx

Do not use a jewelry store as there will be a conflict of interest as he is trying to sell his product instead of giving the ring you bring to him to inspect a fair appraisal.

Most jeweler will not insured against accidental damage of a stone not sold by them during setting, so you will need to get an insurance against that happening, very rare but not impossible. Or you will want to try your luck?

Check if you are having the diamond set by someone who didn''t actually sell it that if the diamond gets damaged during setting ( rare but not unheard of) that the setter will assume responsibility, not all will.

Ok, I will go by Jared tomorrow on my lunch break to see what they can do for me as far as setting the stone goes. Now that everything is coming together I''m getting all excited

On the JA website they say wire money for the discount, what exactly does this entail? I''m assuming not just pay with my debit card, can I use like PayPal?

A bank wire is a process where the money is ' wired' from your bank account to a vendor's bank account. You have to do this in person in your bank, fill out a form and the money is sent. The process is fast, many bank wire transfers reaching the recipient's account within 24 hours, although sometimes it can take a bit longer. Because a bank wire costs less to the vendors in fees, they can often pass a discount onto the consumer. With bank wires you don't have the same protection as you do with a CC, with the trusted vendors I would happily send any of them a bank wire but otherwise be careful.

You will need the vendors acct details, a routing number etc which they will give you.
