And for anyone else living in a cold climate, covered in snow and ice for months at a time.

Yes, it''s true, while walking the dog I actually saw some blades of real green grass!!!!! And a few days ago I heard a woodpecker pecking down on the top of a street lamp (trying to attract a mate).

So it''s official - Spring is on it''s way!!

To all those who look at green grass all year, you are so lucky.

I hear you Gailey! I live in Alberta too and it''s incredible that spring has been here so early this year - my family lives in NS and are ususually boasting about how much warmer it is out there than here at this time of year. This year, it''s been my turn to boast that I haven''t worn mittens since Christmas while my sister is home from work today because of a huge snowstorm!

I don''t think we''re out of the woods yet, not completely. Not in Calgary anyway. I anticipate a couple of good dumps of snow before May is out. Good thing is, it doesn''t last. I just love it when the City has been around and swept up all the gravel.

But right now, I''m off out in my shirt sleeves with the dog to look for more green grass.

I bet the peope who have read this thread think I''m completely barking mad!

I live in Calgary too - I''ve been here 4 years and I''m still always optimistic that the first part of spring isn''t just some evil joke - but I know it is, and I''m sure it will snow in May as usual (but I do like to live in denial as long as possible)

With all the snow you have up there (how does anyone live in the north!), you''ll be faced with a swimming pool before June.

Took the dog down by the river in Elbow Park today. She''s a Westie with a traditional skirt. By the time we got back to the car she was a black and white dog. White on top and black below. I did see more green grass, but I saw a mountain of mud and water that we had to wade through as well!

Losty, you''re making me jealous! The only pussy willows I''ve seen so far have been at the florists!

I am in Upstate NY very close to Toronto, and I think the sun was actually shining a bit today

I thought it said Albertsons, and I couldn''t figure out why you were referring to a grocery store. Sigh.

Glad Spring is coming tho!

Gailey: I knew we were kindred spirits, but now you''ve confirmed it: a Westie!? I have 3 cairns!

Well technically she''s not mine, she belongs to a close girlfriend of mine who is on a sabbatical. Megs comes and stays several times throughout the year and always at Christmas. I''ll post a picture tomorrow when I''ve charged the camera. I love her to bits.

How you doing Losty?

Just don''t tell me you live in a tropical climate!

I used to live in the UK and never took a blind bit of notice of all the green you see. I don''t see anything grass-green in Alberta from November until Mid-April and that''s tough on a gardener with a house that faces north!

Quit giggling, green is a big thing for us!

As promised, here''s a couple of snaps of my little green grass hunter. She only likes to pee on the best!
