Alternatively, an individual assessed the possible consequences of his decisions and chose an action with which he was comfortable, accepting that life is full of risk![]()
The reveling I see online by pathetic twits is disgusting but expected.
If all the other people attending the event were also exercising their own agency and attending voluntarily, weren't all parties present equal in their approach and therefore willing to accept the risks to themselves? No.The mask would have stopped him from spreading covid19 to others. That is why many places mandate masks rather than making masks a choice: because not wearing a mask has an impact on other people. It is not like wearing a helmet or a seat belt. One has the right to extend his fist as far as where another person's nose begins. Personal liberty is not limitless.
Either way, the evidence on mask wearing still appears to inconclusive, from what I've read. The rise in cases in Spain and Australia and other places where masks are mandated seems to indicate that the virus will find a way to do its thing, whatever our efforts are to delay it!

A black conservative is a rare find...RIP Mr. Cain. We need millions more black conservatives like H. Cain.

I'm afraid Australia only recently mandated them and only in certain places -- and there is great fear that this move came far too late.
I dont know abour spain, but if I could trade America's coronavirus case trajectory for spains (without the white house needing to block the statistics from being diseminated to the cdc) then I definitely would do so.
Mask addoption came early and was wide spread in the asian countries -- these are the ones to look at. Unfortunately Japan has had a fresh wave as US military troops seem to have reimported and spread the virus (and it appears Japan has no way to stop them breaking their quarentine. They refused to quarentine, did not declare that they'd come in from overseas, and held large 4th of July parties which has created a vigorous surge of new cases in Japan). So maybe dont look at Japan.
Then you need to expand your reading @OoohShiny. Or you just refuse to comprehend the evidence.
Either way what you think doesn't matter. There is tangible proof masks help slow the spread of Covid 19. And as @jaaron writes there is proof it also helps lessen the severity of the disease by reducing the viral load.
To quote myself and add bolding for clarity:@OoohShiny , Please quit spreading false information. It’s irresponsible to do so. Why do you continue to say wearing masks does not help stop the spread of the virus when the evidence states otherwise? If you don’t care about your own life please be considerate enough to care about others.

I don't believe the above definitively states that 'wearing masks does not help stop the spread of the virus', or is 'false information'.
I have not read that much into the science yet, I have other important things on my mind and To Do list right now, but this forum and many others are debating how effective they are. That level of debate, to me, appears to indicate that the science is not yet fully settled.
I, of course, reserve the right to change or affirm my position upon review of available information, but at this moment in time I feel (and fear) that there is a high level of peer pressure being seen on the wider internet to 'conform' and 'just wear a mask' while the science is still developing. The discussion also seems to be developing to be highly political and highly polarised, especially in America, and science should, arguably, stand on its own two feet and not be used for political purposes.
Personally speaking I am very data driven, more so than by emotional aspects. That might be why I am, at this moment in time, not yet committed to one viewpoint or the other - be it because I have not had the time to read enough or because the firm empirical evidence is not yet out there.

Time for Universal Masking and Prevention of Transmission of SARS-CoV-2
In this issue of JAMA, Wang et al present evidence that universal masking of health care workers (HCWs) and patients can help reduce transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections.1 In the largest health care system in Massachusetts with more than 75 000...jamanetwork.com
Thank you for the link.
You’re welcome. Thanks for being receptive to reviewing it. The science is evolving and we, the public, are confronted with conflicting information. I edited the post to give you the actual study cite too.
