Well, I'm in the final stage. I've already looked at stores, got confused, went to the internet for help, found pricescope, spent weeks reading posts and articles, lurked on the forums, decided what I wanted and how much to spend, and now I'm at the final step! Asking the other members what they think of my choices.

First of all, the ring will be a surprise. With that in mind, I've chosen a rather simple setting from James Allen.

James Allen Setting

But here's what you really came for, the diamonds!

This is the one I've put on hold with White Flash and the one I'm leaning toward. Here.

It is a:

Report: AGS Price: $3149
. Shape: Round Ideal Cut
. Carat: 0.830
. Depth %: 61.7
. Table %: 55.3
. Crown Angle: 34.3
. Crown %: 15.4
. Star : 57
. Pavilion Angle: 40.7
. Pavilion %: 43
. Lower Girdle %: 75
. Girdle: Thin to Slightly Thick Faceted
. Measurements: 6.03-6.06X3.73
. Light Performance: 0
. Polish: Ideal
. Symmetry: Ideal
. Culet: Pointed
. Fluorescence: Negligible

If you click on the link above, you can see the idealscope, ASET, and SARIN report as well as the AGS certificate. This is the only diamond I have in my search that has all that information available.

I've found a comparable diamond at James Allen. Here.

It is a:

Price: $2720
Shape: Round
Carat weight: 0.83
Cut: Premium
Color: G
Clarity: VS2
Certificate: GIA

Depth: 61.2%
Table: 59.0%
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Girdle: Slightly thick to thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Faint
Measurements: 5.94*6.15*3.70

Ok, so basically I'm wondering, is this a decent price for the White Flash diamond? Should I get the comparable one through James Allen instead and save $400?

And finally, a slightly larger diamond through White Flash that I don't have as much info on. Here.

Price: $3065

. Report: GIA
. Shape: Round Ideal Cut
. Carat: 0.89
. Depth %: 61.7
. Table %: 58
. Girdle: STK-TK
. Measurements: 6.15-6.17X3.80
. Polish: Very Good
. Symmetry: Excellent
. Culet: None
. Fluorescence: None

Would this one be worth the slight downgrade in quality for a slightly larger stone?

And my last question, I promise! Has anyone here purchased a diamond from White Flash and had it set in a James Allen setting? Who did you have set the diamond, James Allen or White Flash? How did it turn out? How did this affect the warranties?

Thanks!

EDIT: I've checked the HCA on all of these and they all come out below a 2.

WF stone looks good.

The JA stone has a thick in the girdle variation. This will result in a slightly smaller diameter. A VG in polish and symm will also bring the price down. Request an IS image from JA.

No way to know how the other WF stone perform as the report is not even posted.

Yeah, that''s what I figured. Is it usually worth it to go through the trouble of getting information on a stone that''s not "in-house"? I would like to get a decision made this weekend and have the purchase wrapped up on monday. I''m looking to propose in about a month and want time to send the ring back if it''s not perfect.

I don''t think so. Probably easier to find one on JA with similar stats if you are going to use a JA setting.

Ya, simpler. Else, you would have to get an insurance for the loose stone while setting as most jewelers will not cover a stone not sold by them if damage during setting process. Maybe you can buy the setting and send it to WF for setting, if you like the WF stone better. Not sure what that policy is, best you ask WF and JA.

Yeah, that''s what I planned on doing. Already talked to WF and they had no problem with setting their diamond in the JA setting. Just said that there would be a $70 fee to do so.

I think JA will cover a diamond they didn''t sell against damage in some cases and set it for a customer, I believe the setting fee is $100
