Hi...So as many of you know Igot the ring and asked that question and she said yes. Im really happy with the ring and union diamond.

The Facts:

1. The ring is a 1.01 H VS1 Princess set in a 14k Whitegold stuller tiffany replica setting.
2. The diamond is no issue here.
3. The setting is stamped 14k and it has been confirmed by the touchstone/acid test during the independant apraisial
4. The ring was either sized by union diamond or ordered directly from stuller at a 5.5 (im guessing number 2)
5. The last second I had fast fix jewelery do some engraving in the inside of the band
6. They did mess up on the engraving and buffed it out and re engraved.
7. They did not re-rodium after buffing and engraving. After the engraving they just cleaned the ring with steam.
8. There buffing process took what looked like a grey super duper ulta fine piece sand paper on a wheel and removed the engraving.
9. My fiance is not allergic to white gold.

The problem:

1. She noticed that her finger turned a light grey after wearing the ring.
2. This has happened more than once.
3. The grey can be removed with a wash cloth

What Ive done and theorys:

1. I steamed and used a polishing cloth on the ring. I cannont get any type of grey material off of the ring.
2. I would like to think if it was your classic skin acid metal reaction you could not whipe it off with a wash cloth
3. Ring is not too tight
4. This is a setting from one of the largest setting manufacturers in the world. It should be better than her cheapie rings.

What fast fix is going to do:

1. They are going to rerodium the ring...(In not sure if that is right or wrong) but they said that it could solve the problem. (they are doing this for free)
2. They said they do not need to un mount the diamond and it will not affect the engraving

Questions:

What should I do?
What do you recommend?
Why could this be happeneing?
could it just be dirt?
her other rings dont do this.
Is fast fix right? Re rodiuming it wont affect the diamond or mounting?

My fingers will also turn grey or green from rings & earrings. It''s seasonal.. To fix it I had my rings rhodium plated and that resolved the problem, however I have to have it done periodically, I know it''s my skin and the acid balance in it.

Novice questions- whta is rhodium plated? can you do it to any metal- platinum or gold? And does it affect its appearance?

Please don''t think I''m crazy...has your FI been dieting lately or has she limited her fat intake? A few women in my weight watchers meeting have experienced their fingers turning grey, but only with certain pieces of gold jewelry. They each added a little more fat to their daily diets in the way of 2 tspns of olive oil used in cooking or salads...maybe she has been dieting tio be a skinny bride and cut out some important fat?

(ok everyone, laugh away...I''m sure to take a few knocks for suggesting this

she has been trying to eat healthier...but this was long before she go tthe ring. I just think its werid it doesnt do it to her other rings that are white gold.

Myabe it could be the acid reaction with freash rodium on the inside. so maybe replaing it will fix it...however they asy it wont hurt the diamond and they dont need to un mount it. is this true?

Don''t use a polishing cloth with abrasives in it.

Yes, you don''t need to unmount it, and it won''t hurt the diamond. I don''t think you can induce electricity through diamond? Anyway, the process of plating is like a galvanic battery.

yes it''s true. It won''t hurt the stone. Hopefully that will take care of the problem. Good luck!!

- vinegar being worked in to salads and marinades with hands and getting into engraving and not really getting out.
Glad your vendor is taking care of it.

I react sometimes and get that discoloration, maybe it depends on diet and how much acidty you are excreting through sweat, so if she is eating more acidic food and it is hot out, it might happen now. I know people with allergies to metal but this does not seem to be her issue...try the replating and see what that does...

I am not allergic to gold either, but 14K gold -- yellow or white -- will turn my skin grey. This happens no matter where the metal touches me -- earrings, rings, ankle bracelet, necklace. I can wear 18K without a problem.

My 14kt yellow gold ring used to do that when I got stressed, but my white gold ring doesn''t. It''s probably and acid thing, the rhodium should help until it wears off...

Also, for some people the rhodium will wear off faster than other people. My jeweler said people will usually bring their rings in every 6-12 months for re-rhodiuming, which only takes a few minutes. I don''t have a problem, but my brother told me his fiance had to have hers done 3 times in a nine month period. I agree it seems like a body chemistry thing. Hope the rhodium helps.
