Hi PS''ers!

I am helping my friends bf find a e-ring. I know there is TONS of diamond on this site, but he''s looking for a stone I don''t know much on. A princess cut. His budget is 1000.00 MAX includint the setting. I''d prefer to stick to on the lower end...I know they are both yough and should be spending $$$ elsewhere, not on a ring at this point.

I have a few things I''d like out of the diamond.

1) Comes from somewhere that has an upgrade policy so they can upgrade if needed down the road.

2) Must have a ideal cut because I''m hoping to go lower in color (I''m going to take her ring "looking" and see how color sensitive she it)

3) white gold setting, plain

4) I love WF...but we live in Houston so the 8.5% tax applies...so no whiteflash

5) Eyeclean Si1 or SI2 so that way he can get a little more size for his $$$

Other than that I''m going to let you guys loose! I found one on Jamesallen that was a little under .5 but it was only a fair cut...GOG didn''t have any in their search...I''m tempted to email Jonathan anyways, but I know that for all their info you pay a little bit more (which is good, but not when the budget is so slim

)

I checked excel dimaonds but I don''t know if I truse their version of "eyeclean" I think I''ll email jonthan anyways

because I know he''ll take care of me again for my friend and anything he can find will outshine anything anywhere else!

Okay! GO!

Thanks in advance!

I am guessing your friend is also from Texas?

Maybe you can try BN? Their simple WG solitaire setting is at $325. Then I would go and look at their list of princess cut with AGSL grading and make sure those are graded AGS0 on the cut. If you have a friend who has bought from BN before, they could do a reference and you can get a $100 discount from the purchase for purchase above $1000, so in effect you can have $775 to buy from the stone. http://www.bluenile.com/referral_rules.asp

Good Luck. I can give you the reference if you need it.

Scratch that... You want to be upgradable... :P Sorry, not thinking correctly. :P

Yes, they both live in TX. Also, she likes bazel settings. I can''t say I can recall seeing seeing anything set like that but rounds.
She also likes cushions, but she doesn''t like the "dome" shape of the top of the diamond. I''m sure she''d love ashers and square H&A.

She likes the halo look as well. I''m hoping to find something about .5 or close to it (above .25 please)

She wears a size 5 ring as well.

Thanks!

I am thinking maybe you should not give up on WF. Even with the 8% tax, their simple solitaire setting is already $75 cheaper than BN at $250, so you could get a good deal there. That would even out the 8% tax I think.

Is a diamond in the secondary market out of the question? That could be another way to get value for money! If the person got it from somewhere with an upgrade policy then that'd be upgradeable still I assume.

My favorite hobby helping someone pick out jewelry. I would go with WF since you are in Houston.

I am not opposed to getting the diamond second hand. Especally if it''s on the lower end (500.00ish). I do want to get quality though, over size.

If we can find what he is looking for from WF that would be great! Can you bazel set an asher or a princess?

Stephanie,

Not intending to be a shill for Excel, just reading through this thread, it seems Ebree may have helped to take care of you...

I love the it but I''m hoping to find other options as well! It looks like a great stone, but I''m hoping to be more in the middle part of the budget (700.00 or so)
I''m helping him and want to give him a few options. I don''t want to show him just one diamond that puts everything at the top!

Also, she loves peridot, so another option is a gemstone e-ring. She loves bazel settings, and so I''m thinking we''ll have to get a smaller diamond and pay more for the setting.

I''m looking into the peridot centerstone option as well! Thanks guys for your help so far!

Hrmm..if he can spend 1k why not just spend 1k ? I understand the concept of a strict budget, but imo you will be strugging to find something nice for $700 all inclusive (unless of course she is not a size girl at all).
A bezel sounds like a nice idea, do you know if she wants WG or YG? They are a bit more expensive than standard solitaires though..

Ditto, and also, I don''t think any of the gems stone are upgradeable so far I only found diamonds that are, so you might want to reconsider that.

Ya, that too - and I just thought, perhaps Peridot too soft for an ering? I''m not a coloured stone expert at all, but I believe its not very strong..
I would suggest they stick to diamonds Stephanie imo

What he would do if he got a peridot would be get a setting she loves w/the size peridot center stone. Later down the road the peridot would be moved into another ring, and a diamond would replace the center stone.

The princess Ebree found is perfect...but James (my friends bf) misunderstood his gf...she said she DOESN''T want princess cut, or a round....she likes the cushion shape. She didn''t know what it was called, so she said not a princess, but the one kinda like a princess...like my ring. He just misunderstood and he though my ring was a princess cut, and that''s what he told me.

So onto a new search for a cushion cut diamond bezel set or a halo (she likes both). I don''t know if it''s doable in that budget, but I found something I think looks nice for now, and when they can afford more later, they can go the diamond route.

FYI: She loves the idea of a gemstone e-ring as long as it has diamonds somewhere. Either in the setting or the WB.

Heres the linky for the ring I found for her!

A few PSers have also bought settings from an eBay seller. I don't know about the gemstons though.
A Peridot Ring: http://cgi.ebay.com/PERIDOT-DIAMOND-14K-WHITE-GOLD-COCKTAIL-RINGS_W0QQitemZ370093571440QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item370093571440.

You can just pick up the setting and get a nice stone. How about getting a Sapphire? They have a 9 rating on the hardness scale.

Overstock has a Sapphire ring that is running out soon..

Found this, silver ring though.

All the rings you guys found are great! I emailed the site w/the peridot ring that I found and asked them what would happen if the stone fell out from normal wear and tear bc it''s not as hard as a sapphire/diamond etc. They said they''d replace it for 15.00!

So, that is good news! I know that it may need replaced a few times before they can afford a dimaond, but the setting and everything is perfect for her, as well as the price!

I asked her about doing a different gem stone than peridot...and it''s a no go. She likes the lime green color and doesn''t want anything else.

Thanks so much for your help guys! I''ll let you know what he''s going to do!

To be honest, I like the side view of the LOGR ring better. It is less bulky and more elegant than the Bell Jewels one. You also get pave diamonds along the entire band and a larger center stone for only $199. On the ad, it said you can change the stone to another one. I think you need to confirm that it is a natural peridot as the center stone. However, at the price of both of the ring options - I am not sure what the quality of the stones are.

The only reasons I wouldn''t have choosen the LOGR ring is 1) the other ring they will replace the stone if it gets damaged in any way later on down the road at buyers cost.
And 2) She doesn''t want something that size...meaning the LOGR is 2.5 + carats w/the halo, it''s going to look HUGE! I''ll take her to the jewlery store and have her try on a 2.5 w/a halo and let her see how it looks. The same w/the 1 carat halo.

It all is up to them! I do like the options though!

Thanks so much for the comparison! It is more value for the buck!

I did a search on Craigslist-

I found this today online... might work if you're in the area!

and this:

I know these don't have upgrade policies necessarily, but may not hurt to look into your local craigslist?
