My boyfriend and i are not together anymore and i was able to keep the ring. I want to change the setting so that i can wear it without any memories. Its on a simple 6 prong setting now. It is very plain. I always wanted to halo it but I did not want to make it have the illusion of being larger than it is or dwarfing the main stone.

I am looking for something in white gold and a filigree design on the crown. Tacori is out of my price range.

Specs: F VS2 slight blue tone
.78ct brilliant round
5.85-5.9mm

I was in the Chinatown area and I saw a few very nice settings. One had a micro pave halo with a baguette .08 on each side with 5 diamonds decreasing in size on the band for $590 (including sizing up and setting stone), 18k white gold, .40ctw but I felt that the side diamonds color/quality did not match mine. Is that normal? Do smaller diamonds sparkle less?

*sorry i tried to attach a sample but i couldn't*

Depends on what you mean by sparkle less.

Melee diamonds can be low on 'sparkle' in comparison to a larger round cut diamond for many reasons.
Here are just a few:
1. Setting could have been dirty.
2. Diamonds could be fine, and the quality of the setting job of the pave could be the problem.
3. The diamonds could be really included
4. Everything could be fine and you just prefer broader flashes of light from larger facets of larger diamonds.

It's really hard to say without having maginified pics of the setting. I would suggest buying a loupe and taking it to some high end jewelers and get your eyes used to seeing the quality of the diamonds, the type of sparkle they have, the way they are set into the ring before you make a purchase if you are concerned. Once you get used to seeing high quality melee and pave you can spot anything of lower quality pretty easily. Hearts on Fire has some nice pave settings, I would start there.

Thank you for your response. I will shop around and visit higher color diamond settings to compare the differences.

There are many options. if you don't mind telling us, what is your budget? Perhaps we can help find you something.

It's not the color (unless that's a typo and was meant to be quality

) so much it's how evenly matched they are, how well they are cut, how they are set, and what the clarity on them is... as well as the color, of course. It could be any of those.

What state are you in, if you don't mind my asking? We might be able to recommend a few places to browse.

Oh my i meant color/clarity! Sorry brain fart there!

I live in the bay area, CA, USA

My budget is low under 800. The chinatown was located in Oakland, ca. I swill be visited SF chinatown next week. They seem to be in my mid budget of 300-600$.

I tried to upload the tacori picture again but it just didnt work out.
I have a feeling the setting i was looking at was maybe I/J in color and since it did not sparkle i will guess simple cut diamonds at SI-I1 clarity. I can see a slight color tone difference from the semi mount to my diamond. My diamond looks a bit more blue.

I am sorry ive been a member on the other page so long i forgot about the rules. I will try and post ASAP. Sorry for the noobness!

Also thanks to everyone trying to help
