Hey everyone! I''m more of a lurker than a poster, but I''m in need of some help! I''m getting engaged pretty soon, and my soon-to-be fiance and I are looking for rings. My sister sent me this pic (see below) and I fell in love, but have no idea what this cut is! She''s on vacation in Thailand and I have no way to reach her for the next three weeks, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Lybug,
Welcome to PS! Congrats on starting your look for an ering! I hope you have a great time doing so! Be sure to take some time to read through the forums on PS - there is a wealth of information that will help you make the most informed decision you can.

In regards to the ring you posted, the center stone looks like a princess cut, and the 2 side stones are trillion cut.

Hope this helps!

Spring cut is closest, maybe.

Crisscut and Tycoon are similar, but that is not one of those.

Julie,
what is the difference between the spring cut and the princess? Being a square cut, it looks to me like a princess cut, but I am probably incorrect!

In the picture I have (which looks better than the one posted) it looks more emerald-cut-ish than princess cut, since the shape is more elongated than a princess cut. But it''s definitely not an emerald cut.

That doesn''t look like a princess to me, but I''m not positive about that, or ehat else it could be...

Henri Daussi cuts stones that are rectangular cushions. They look a bit like Emeralds with more facets. Not an exact match for what you posted but close.

www.Solomonbrothers.com sells Daussi check out what they have and see what you think.

is that a criss cut or a quadrillion cut?

I may have found something similar, but my computer won''t let me post the pictures. They describe it as an antique cushion cut. Does that make any sense? Sorry to be a pain, but I''m a dud when it comes to diamonds.

the diamond in the ring you posted is not a cushion. but cushions are lovely, too.

I just received an email from my sister, and the diamond is a spring cut. I need to look into this cut because I''ve never heard of it before and I really, really love this ring! Any ideas?

It's supposed to be nice, developed with Ideal Scope, a lot of buzz when it first came out, but manufacturing difficulties years ago resulted in low distribution. Well, that's from what I can gather, anyway.

Is that the same thing as a Tycoon, or different?

I believe Julie''s absolutely right about the cut. And if you look at the link she provided, you''ll note that they cut them in Emerald and square cuts.

Good call Julie. I have never seen a spring cut before.
