So gonna make the plunge within the next couple months and need help with the following. Originally budget was $8K all in (taxes, shipping, etc). But would like to maybe bring it down a bit... Maybe $6000-$6500? If i really really have to then maybe go up $7-$8K.

What I need is a 1ct princess, the with best cut, and everything else on the higher side.
Setting will be a 3 stone.

Currently I like the below setting but it's a bit on the high side... and would cut into the centre budget... I'd prefer platinum, hesitant about white gold. Not sure if I can get the same setting somewhere else for a bit cheaper, even though it would be nice to have everything all done at the same place. (Whiteflash seems to be the preferred vendor since it is highly recommended.

Anyone care to help this clueless guy out?

It would bring down the price if you didn't have 3 sided diamond melee on the ring. I love 3 sided but know if your intended wants a wedding band it will have to be plain as the diamonds will rub against each other and do some serious damage. I'm also personally not a fan of the "Coeur de clara ashley" as I find it very busy and just a bit toooooo girly for my taste. Does your GF like that look? I perfer something a bit more sleek and classic.

For a 3 stone princess I really like this BGD setting:

Edit: Sorry about that I was looking at the WG price and not PLAT. Sorry about that. My suggestion doesn't really help you there. Have you looked at the Gabriel and Co settings through IDJ? They seem to be very budget friendly. I would have a look there to- see if anything perks your interest. I'm not sure if they have intricate 3 stones. Another option might be ERD.

Do yo like this from ERD:

You would need to request pricing so it might be out of budget but I think it is very nice.

d'oh!
you are right, why didn't i think of that. the wedding band wouldn't work with a ring like that ... well that sorta helps the budget then...
thanks for the feedback

are there any discounts offered by james allen? similar to whiteflash?

Yes. Ask a customer service rep for the details.

Ask for gemologist's review and ASET.

It seems to me like the VS2 is better.

Question about shopping with James Allen/Whiteflash/etc. Although they offer settings on their sites, if there is nothing we like, are they able to custom make the settings? If I go this route, is it better to have the customization of the setting done somewhere else, or is it better to just have everything done by the same retailer? (ie. get the diamond and settings all done by whiteflash instead of just getting the centre stone from them and the setting somewhere else?)

Thanks!

One of DH's friends chose this ring for his SO - he asked for engraving on the sides instead of pave. It IS a more "girly" sort of feminine IRL, IMO - the three-sided decoration, the trellis head, the hearts in the gallery... It was the perfect for his FI and looks lovely on her, but I think if you aren't sure she'd love the style you may want to err toward something more restrained...

ETA: just read the replies - ditto Sarah!

I've had several custom pieces made by WF and I've been very happy with all of them. I have not worked with JA - my impression is that they're rather newer to the custom settings arena? Whatever you choose, I would recommend calling in and talking to your rep about what you'd like and what your budget is - by keeping everything under one roof you avoid shipping hassles, insurance/liability issues, outside stone setting fees, and they may be able to work the total cost down a bit more than if you were only buying stone or setting.

which ring are you referring to?

What are your guys' thoughts on this?

Like the style much better for princesses, don't know anything about Since1910's pricing or workmanship - hopefully others can help more
