I have been looking for a pair of Fancy Yellow diamond earrings for many months now. The problem is:
If I go to a retail storefront, they are expensive, they don’t have many choices (many times only 1 pair in the whole store), and even if they do have a few pair to choose from, they usually do not have a GIA report for the center stones. Or they will have a report, but it is color only.
So I have opted to shop via internet. I have found many more choices, but I am scared I am going to overpay for something that looks good on paper, but isn’t a good cut. Im also disappointed because many of them have an EGL certificate (NOT GIA), and I have seen many many posts on here advising NOT to buy anything that has an EGL certificate.
So finding a pair of fancy yellow diamond earrings that I like and is within my budget WITH a GIA certificate has been very VERY difficult. And like I said, even if I do find a pair with a good GIA certificate, the cut may still be poor (from what I understand from my reading on Pricescope… I could have a GIA SI1 with a great cut vs a GIA VVS1 with a bad cut and the SI1 would be the better diamond, correct?? So I am afraid I am going to buy a pair of earrings with a GIA report that is great, but the cut is terrible and then I just wasted my money.)
Anyway, I have found a pair of yellow diamond earrings that I really really like (there is a video of them on the website that is selling them). However, they are only House graded. No GIA, no EGL certificate. They say they are 0.5 carats each, SI1-VS2. They say they are Fancy Vivid to Fancy Deep yellow.
I have balked to them about my concern that the stones are not certified. So they have given me these options:
1. Send the earrings to EGL.
2. Make me pay for the earrings up front, then they will send them to GIA to have the stones removed and graded and they will pay for the GIA certification. But if I am unhappy with the GIA results, I can return the earrings for a refund minus the amount of the GIA certification.
3. I can pay for the earrings as is. Then take them to my own appraiser. If unhappy, I can return them for a full refund.

Those are the options. I don’t know what to do. I don't think I should send them to EGL, right?
I could opt to have them sent to GIA, but my problem with that is: GIA will probably grade them LOWER than the House grader. (I highly doubt GIA will grade them HIGHER than the house did). So if the GIA certificate comes back with a LOWER grade and a LOWER color, then what do I do? If I send them back for a refund, I will be out hundreds of dollars because they will not refund me the cost of the GIA certificate. But if I keep them, then I have to live with the fact that I overpaid for them. (Is my reasoning correct?)
I could purchase them and take them to a personal appraiser, but the problem is WHO do I go to? I could end up going to a bad appraiser. So that seems risky.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I own yellow diamond earrings from Diamonds By Lauren, along many other things. I would recommend them. If you don't see what you're looking for on the site call David the owner. He is very accommodating and can find whatever you want.

He is very accommodating and can find whatever you want. They have a great website and are also in the NYC diamond district. The don't have a storefront but you may be able to make an appointment if you want in person shopping. If not David has a great eye and will take plenty of various lighting condition photos and video for you.

Have you looked at Leibish? They have a website and an eBay store and often have GIA certified earrings. I'm sure they would have some options in their inventory.
