hi,

I've been offered this diamond by my local jeweller - 1.7ct GIA#5196444753.
She claimed that it is a good quality stone with excellent cuts. But when I looked further into the dimensions and putting them into the HCA calculator tool, it looked very mediocre, probably below average I would say.

I just want to hear what others think of this diamond.

BTW, the cost of this is around USD$15k

Thanks.

Well I am not an expert by any means but for me the table is a bit big and the crown angle is a bit low.
The HCA gives it a 5.7
So I would pass.

Selected: 62.1% depth, 59% table, 33° crown angle, 41.8° pavilion angle
The result is for a symmetrical diamond with a medium girdle and very good polish
HCA scores were adjusted Dec. 15, 2001 and Feb. 6, 2003.

Factor- Grade
Light Return- Good
Fire- Fair
Scintillation- Fair
Spread or diameter for weight- Very Good
Total Visual Performance 5.7 - Good - Only if price is your main criterion

15K is a generous budget
and I would prefer

Oh goodness, yes, I would skip that one!

You want an HCA score of under 2.0.

Here are some parameters that help you get a score close to or less than 2.

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34-35.0

pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0
