Well, I have a pair of studs, both G colour, VVS1 (one is my original engagement ring and the other my 5th anniversary present). The problem is that they don't match, particularly in measurements. I'd like to purchase another diamond to match my larger one and have them set into martini studs (both the stone and the setting to be sourced/ made by an on-line vendor).
My existing larger stone's specs are as follows:
Measurements: 6.56 - 6.68 x 3.97 mm
Carat weight: 1.03
Colour: G
Clarity: VVS1
Depth: 60%
Table: 57%
Girdle: thin to medium, faceted
Culet: small
Polish: very good
Symmetry: good
Fluor: medium blue
I have no specs on crown and pavillion angles, as it is an older cert, unfortunately. Not sure what to do about this. All I know it is that it is a pretty good cut, not ideal but good enough. I'd like the new stone to be of the same or similar cut. Perhaps I could narrow down a few vendors and explore the option of sending my existing stone to them so that they could measure the crown and pavillion to ensure a better match? Any thought? Colour-wise, prob. G or H colour, preferably with medium blue fluor (with no oily/ milky effect). Clarity-wise, it doesn't have to be a VVS as long as it is very clean (no black carbons/ crystals and no visibly large feathers). I guess it can be a VVS so long as that doesn't result in a "large" price differential ("large" is maybe several hundreds dollars or more).
I've done a quick search on WF and Blue Nile but don't seem to be able to find one that's close to the specs req'd.
As far as setting, am not sure whether to go with platinum or WG. I personally prefer platinum but don't wish to pay the difference in prices if it is larger than a couple of hundred dollars.
As for my smaller stone, I'd like to have it set into a pendant. Would like a squarish setting, as the majority of my diamonds are RB. I'd like for it not to "flip" as this would drive me mad, LOL. Any suggestion?
Oh, I'd like to keep the costs down too.
Thank you.
