I''m currently considering purchasing a 2.0 carat round with the following specs:

H (GIA graded)
SI1
Excellent Cut
Very Good Polish
Very Good Symmetry
Depth = 63.1%
Table = 56%
Diameter = 8.0 x 8.05
Price: $18,400

I have seen the stone and really like it in comparison to other stones with similar "credentials." However, from reading the posts on here, I''m a bit concerned about the depth and the diameter (which seems a bit small for a 2.0 carat). Since this is a GIA excellent cut, does this really matter? Also, how much of a difference would it make to have excellent polish and excellent symmetry (as opposed to very good).

Additionally, the stone has two or three longer needles on the grading diagram (but is eye clean to me). Is this reason for concern?

Is this too expensive for a stone of this cut and quality? I''ve looked online and seen that there are cheaper stones with similar specs, but I wasn''t able to view the grading diagrams.

Any advice you could provide on any of these questions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

It is a little deep. What are the values of it''s crown and pavilion angle?

I don''t know about this stone...

Where are you seeing this rock? In a store? If you''re close to Philly/NY I know a guy called Magic Mike that can hook you up.

I''d be interested to see what people think about the ability to distinguish b/w GIA ex-ex-ex and gia ex-vg with the naked eye.

LOL.

In all seriousness though, I think you can do better. That IS a deep stone and without the other information especially, I would pass. But it's deep enough that I would pass anyway. Sorry.

There is a LARGE range for what qualifies as a GIA "excellent", GIA is not known for judging cut quality well either unfortunately.
