There are many beautiful settings. The style of your setting is a matter of personal taste. From a basic Tiffany-style setting in 4 or 6 prong, all the way to something of incredibly complex design you can't go wrong if it makes you (and the wearer!) happy. I would suggest you browse the websites of different vendors and designers.
I do have advice on the color of the setting relative to the diamond if you are interested in that kind of input: If you choose a gold setting but have a colorless diamond that diamond may absorb and reflect back some of the setting color, so I personally advise white gold or platinum for diamonds that face up white. However, this is also a matter of personal preference.
If you want to accentuate the size of the stone, I would recommend getting a thin solitaire (2-2.7mm). The wider the band, the smaller the diamond will look. I just ordered the Superbcert 6 prong Tiffany setting for my stone because I really want my stone to stand out. Here''s a pic of the setting.
I also think John''s idea of looking through the ering folder is an excellent one.
As far as solitaires, the Royal Crown is pretty but I think the Tiffany 6 prong setting that Demelza is referring to is prettier. The shank is thinner and thus accentuates the diamond more.
