Help with setting!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for those that responded in my other threads. Been sorta stressed about my setting the past few days. But I was wondering if I can get more help from you guys. Is it possible to find a decent setting for my cushion that has diamonds on the side, more then 4/5 but closer to 10 on each side say over 7 diamonds. I prefer a channel setting vs paved but at my budget I can’t want too much. I ordered this setting from JA and the setting has a bit of flaws in it with the prongs not being aligned and the diamonds on the side seem a bit crooked too. They have basically said nothing they can do to fix my prongs (setter “should” fix that) and crooked diamonds on the side as it passed their quality control or I can return it for a full refund. ‘sigh’ I like this setting and it’s in platinum too but I feel like I don’t want to settle for this setting purely for the fact it’s a cheap. It fits what I want in a setting but a few flaws in it. I just want to know if I can get a similar setting for ~$1500 USD in platinum if possible or I’ll live with white gold at another vendor as I’m not too happy with my JA purchase experience so far. I guess I had too much high hopes after my successful online diamond purchase from Jon at GoG. I have looked at some of the Ritani designs but they are so expensive at $2500 USD for this setting. I can’t afford to spend more on the ring since we’re saving up for our house and wedding already.

$1500 with diamonds in the shank and head, thats a lot to ask for. Getting a quote for just a plain setting alone in my yellow gold no diamonds was already $1100 from a couple of online dealers. So i highly doubt the dollar figure you''re looking to pay will give you better craftsmanship.

I would return it. Then contact GOG and ask them for quotes on a custom setting in WG and Pat, and try BGD. Then go from there.

And I'm sorry it didn't turn out as planned, but there is that old saying....

Thanks for the advice Ellen. I originally wanted the whole thing done at GoG but the setting Sarah sent me wasn't what I wanted or go with a thicker band. I mean it was nice but it wasn't "ooo I love it" type of thing. I think I might return it as sitting on it for a day or two isn't really making me "love" this JA setting. I am tempted to put the cushion in a plain, cheapest setting I can find and deal with the setting later.

D&T, I actually don't care for that much diamonds and especially at the head. I tried looking for something with less diamonds and closer to what JA's setting was but can't. Was it from one of their designer lines? They do make custom settings, in case you weren''t aware, they just don''t really advertise that.

I would follow your gut on this.

oooh, I see now, I thought the picture of the Ritani, is what you had bought a look a like but now I see your link to the actual ring you bought. I''m sorry that you are not in love with the ring. I''ve been through three mounts in less than one year myself. So maybe just stick it in a temp simple solitaire (not expensive) so you can save up for the mount of your dreams... I think about all the money I wasted

and now wish I could have just stuck it in a simple setting inexpensive so I can really work on the dream setting.

Ellen, the ring is from the regular line. I had no clue they do custom work! For some reason I got a sour taste with JA and don''t want to try again but I do have to say their customer service is great!

D&T, I am seriously leaning on taking more time to find my dream setting vs rush it. Problem is I want to admire my cushion and wear it! hahaha A temp setting would solve this problem and give me more time to save up too!!! If only finding the perfect ER was as easy as buying groceries where selection is minimal!

put your cushion in a solitaire mount, don''t rush the dream ring, otherwise you''ll keep doing it over and over, and giving your DH grief
