I bought this cushion from GOG http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/8187 and intend to have it set by Victor Canera. I have gone back and forth on the setting but I keep coming back to a split shank. I am torn on what type of pave to use. I have long fingers, size 5.25 and I am concerned about it being too dainty? But ultimately want what will look best with my stone and wanted to solicit the good advice from you guys!

U cut pave or brightcut a la Starryeyed https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/2-47-f-if-asscher-leon-mege-split-shank-setting.62768/. And would you use single cut or full cut melee?

Thanks!!

Have you gone and tried on pave rings?that might help you decide what style you prefer and if you'd like a slit shank or not. As for single or full cuts, I'd love single with an antique or antique style cut stone but they are harder to replace and if Victor isn't local for you, shipping could add up. We have recommend to folks who do choose single cuts to just order extra stones so you can possibly have someone local do the repair if necessary..

I have tried on a lot of different rings. A lot of them don't seem to be quality pave. And some of them have been more thin than I think I would like to go. I tried on this at Tiffay and loved it (but ultimately decided against the halo), but the split shank Lucida band didn't appeal to me at all as it was far too delicate for me. I wanted to consider brightcut as it seems to be more practical, I doubt that I would add milgrain. And I do not intend to wear a wedding band with it.

Personally, I prefer brightcut pave. U-cut looks... mushroomy. I dunno, man, it just makes me think of mushrooms when I see it, and I hate mushrooms. But plenty of people feel otherwise.

Brightcut is also far less likely to have stones fall out, and if you're not getting three-sided pave, there will be less issues of wear on a wedding band (provided the wedding band isn't u-cut pave or three-sided pave). Except now I see you know all that and are not planning on a wedding band. In which case all I can offer you is the thought of weird, sparkly little mushrooms all over your finger. Soooo creepy.

And I really do love Starry-eyed's ring you linked to, and the french-cut one Diamondseeker linked.

I love the split shank idea for your stone (its GORGEOUS)!!!!! I also love starryeyed's ring, so I say go for it!!!! Can't wait to see pics when its done!!! :appl: :appl:

I think starryeyed's setting style would be great on your stone. That is similar to the original design that I wanted. If you go with Victor Canera, I think u-cut or brightcut would be fine. Try both on somewhere and see which you prefer on your hand. I have u-cut and I do not fear any diamonds falling out. I let Victor know that I did not want dainty either and although it looks feminine, it is not dainty. He did suggest that I go with smaller diamonds because then there is more gold left to hold the diamonds in place.

Look forward to seeing your finished ring.

Beautiful stone!
