Hi everyone, could I please get some help from some knowledgeable and experienced people? I have had my ring finger sized as a J 1/2 (think this is a size 5) and I was really happy with how that felt on my finger (bit of friction going over the knuckle yet not too tight on my finger, no spinning). However, the person making my engagement ring has mentioned to me that it is important to consider how it will feel with a wedding band as well. My engagement ring is going to be about 2mm wide and I think I'll get a plain band about the same width to wear with it, or maybe slightly wider.

My question is, did you go up a bit in size for both your engagement and wedding rings because you were going to wear them together? Did you find that what felt really comfortable and secure became too tight when another band was added?

A ring should be a little loose in the winter because it will feel tighter in the summer. I'd allow maybe a quarter size larger to wear with a band or bands.

Speaking only for myself, both my rings are size 4.25 and they both fit comfortably when worn together. I recently bought a 4.5 band and I just feel it's too loose on my finger, even when worn with my ering. My rings a little more snug during warm weather and a little loose in cold, but not to the point where it's a problem.

Thank you so much diamondseeker and junebug for your input! Luckily the temperature doesn't vary too much here in NZ and I've never noticed rings to fit differently depending on the season so that's good for sizing purposes. I will be wearing my ring 24/7 so I want to be super sure that it can't possibly fall off! Perhaps I'll just stick with the size I know fits me perfectly for now, I guess I can always resize it later. And before anyone tells me off for being so foolhardy with an expensive item of jewelry, my SIL wears her 2ctw 5 stone ering/wedding ring 24/7 also, even when filleting fish and gardening, and it has never come to any harm throughout 5 years of wear! I'd feel safer with it on my finger :naughty:

I would say it depends on the width of the rings. My e-ring is 1.8 mm and my w-ring is 1.2 mm and they do not feel tighter when I wear them together. If they were both 3 mm, I could see going a quarter size up.

That's true - mine are about 2 mm each
