Help with re-polishing my OEC

Hallo all

I have a medium sized OEC which has been graded as having a 'good' polish. Can this be redone? I don't want to have the stone recut, but I'd like to have the polish as good as possible. Who would be able to do this? BGD? WF? GOG? I'm wondering if the same companies that will recut stones would be willing to do a re-polish - and only a re-polish.

Has anyone else ever had this done?

I know that sometimes the polish is dependent on the stone, e.g. internal grain lines and surface grain lines could affect polish
if the stone is distorted, maybe inclusions near the surface or just not a good make. If the stone is not cut to great proportions
of symmetry etc then maybe the cutter wouldn't be putting much time into the polishing either. The latter may be able to bring to a better polish. One of the diamond cutters or Karl or one of the dealers here would be able to answer you better I think.

I remember years ago a woman on here called bagpuss had a 'Old English Brilliant' which the experts at the time said were cut to
very high standards. I think it was cut at the same time as the tranny cuts would have been cut in the USA, however the old english brilliant was cut to a higher standard they said and not cut for very long. I believe it was Dave Atlas the appraiser on here who wrote about it. I know some of the old diamonds on here have great symmetry at the larger sizes so probably depended back
then on the size and worth of stone.

Thanks for the info, Pyramid. It might be wise for me to contact one of the re-cutters directly, I think. I've wondered about surface graining, but there's probably no way of telling the extent to which this may or may not affect a re-polish without sending it off to someone who does this kind of thing. I've followed PS pretty closely for some years now, and I can't remember anyone only having a re-polish. A friend of mine once had a colored gem re-polished, but I suspect that's a different process.
