I lost my wedding ring Natalie K 8724 w with the wedding band added. It had a 1.2 EGL usa certified center stone. I had it insured and my insurance company doesn't pay out, they replace with "equal or better". I'm fine with this since I really just want my ring back but since I think my baby flushed it I will settle with something that looked just like it. My issue is the diamonds they are offering as center stone. The first was EGL hong kong and was so rectangular that it was more emerald cut and wouldn't fit it my Natalie K setting. I refused that one and had my jeweler call to plead my case. Now they are offering these 2 to chose from and I don't get to see them in person or even a decent picture:

EGL us906823903d
1.20 cts.
Color G clarity VS2
6.21 x 5.65x 4.21
depth 74.5
table 75
crown height 6.4% (i'm concerned about this, my old diamond had a crown of 10% which is in the ideal range)
pavilion height 65.3
crown angle 35.4%
pavilion angle 40.5%
girdle: thin to thick
polish Very Good
Symmetry Very Good

GIA 2155525616
1.2cts
Color G Clarity VS2
6.15 x 5.69 x 4.03
Depth 70.9
Table 75
girdle: slightly thick to very thick
polish Very Good
Symmetry Good (this is not as good as my old diamond)

they don't offer crown height or angle nor pavilion height or angle so I have no idea how it compares to my old stone.

My old stone:
1.2 cts
Color G Clarity VS2
6.05 x 5.40 x 4.11
depth 76.1
table 72
crown height 10%
pavilion depth 61%
Girdle: slightly thick
polish Very Good
Symmetry Very Good

My stone was slight rectangular but looked nice in my setting, depth was higher than other above but table was smaller. I got to see this diamond before my husband purchased and chose it because I liked the way it sparkled compared to the others we were considering, it had great fire/brilliance. I'm concerned about picking one of these with out ever seeing it, will is sparkle as good? Also the girdle on both but especially the GIA one concerns me but I'm not an expert so not sure if it is good or bad or what is ideal.

Please help if any of you are experts or really informed on this cut, what diamond will sparkle as well or better then my old one or should I keep fighting with my insurance company to go find something else?

Im so sorry for your loss. i have been in the insurance industry for over 30+ years. I don't know who your insurance company is, if your ring was insured as a rider, personal articles policy, etc or what the policy said. When you have a loss, your insurance company has the option to repair, replace or cash out, BUT they must put you back the way you were before the loss up to the stated amount of insurance. If the diamond they are wanting to give you is not comparable to what you have, you are not obligated to accept it. The majority of the companies want to replace the item thru their authorized vendors since its cheaper for them to do it this way.

Do you have a detailed appraisal? Is your ring a GIA, EGL etc certified with the diamonds measurements? If so, make a copy and tell your insurance company that you will accept nothing less than what you had. Do you have any friends in the jewelry business that could advise you on a replacement? In the city where I live, the LARGE insurance company has several authorized replacement jewelers where you could look at the diamond and they would sell it to for the same as the company would buy for.

Diamond prices have gone up and if you had your ring on a special policy, the instance company will not pay more than the insured amount. This is why it's important to have a new appraisal every 5 years or so. I have an inflation guard on my Personal Articles just for that reason. Anyway, they may be replacing the diamond of less quality due diamond prices increasing. They may think you would rather have a larger stone, less quality and won't know the difference. Read your policy and good luck.

One more thing, considering what they have offered you, I would not accept unless you and your jeweler can see the diamond/inspect it prior to purchase. Maybe your jeweler will accept the amount they are willing to spend and buy you a diamond of your choice.

Thanks for the info, I have a policy that is about 5 years old with USAA. The amount insured was 18,900. They are trying to replace it for less than 10k. They have a copy of the certificate and the appraisal from the time I originally insured it (almost 5 years ago). So I'm no where near where the policy amount allows, which I'm fine with as long as the diamond is as good to me as what I had. The buyout they are offering is the Natalie K at over 3k less than husband paid 5 years ago, it is their "wholesale" price. What they offered for the diamond is over 1k less than we paid 5 years ago. If I take the cash they are offering I will not be able to replace my ring with it. No jeweler is going to sell the entire thing at absolutely no profit to his store.
