Hi everyone,
I have been researching diamonds and engagement rings for about 3 weeks. The information on PriceScope has been awesome and after reading through many threads I thought I would start my own.
I have been to all of the typical mall jewellery stores in Ontario where I was not impressed and three independent stores. The independent stores had nicer diamonds but not many princess cuts. One out of the three brought in the following two diamonds:
1) 0.75 carat, very good cut (as rated by their GIA gemologist), F, SI1, GIA cert
2) 0.67 carat, excellent cut, G, SI2, GIA cert
I thought the 0.67 looked nicer and had more sparkle. I asked about ASET images and they didn't know what they were. I was not super impressed by either diamond as even some of the mall diamonds had more sparkle. I was quoted my budget at $5,000 for a custom setting and either diamond (the 0.7 may have been a few hundred more). The price seems good but I'm worried that either I haven't seen enough diamonds loose in person to know what they should look like or the cuts are lacking and that was why I left unimpressed.
Due to this I am leaning towards purchasing online to get an AGS certified diamond with ASET images. I think around 0.65 is a good size for her finger in a halo setting similar to this:
Anything we tried above 0.70 made the entire halo pretty large.
I know it is hard to say much about the diamonds I have seen in person as I don't have pictures or much detail on them, but any advice or recommendations on diamonds/settings online would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
