I am in the process of picking out new Roman Shades.... not happy with the quality and look of the original order

One of the problems I was having was with color. The color I choose was too close to my wall color - which is a light tan with green undertones. You can see a bit of it in the picture.

I think I need more of a contrast. Do I go with darker - like a brown or cream ? The color I have now almost clashes with the wall color and does not pop.

My cabinets are cream.. cream subway tile.. medium granite. I am doing one over the sink and in the seating area.
The seating area has a large window ( 78 inches ) .
My dining set is a darker brown distressed wood.. but the rest of the kitchen is lighter...

Please help

P.S. I don''t want anything too light since it will show dirt.. is brown too dark for a kitchen ?

Any chance of pics of the windows and of original roman shades that you don''t like?

I think you need an injection of color, maybe something with red? (red and white stripes perhaps or a a pattern w/reds). Another option is a brighter green (lighter to stand out against walls?).

Without clear idea of shades my first thought was happy green.

Here is the picture I took for the Manufacturer. I can''t do green or red - I will get some objection from DH

I want to either go in a darker or lighter direction.. Can I do Dark Brown ??

I also saw a nice stripe, but I am afraid it will look like a circus tent... I am also not sure if I should go with a heavy or
lighter fabric..

Thanks

Sorry I am having trouble resizing lately. Hope this works

The liner was making the fabric fade out... the fabric is acutally a sandy brown color..but appears white in the sunlight

I like this,,,,but it is silk

This would be another option.. better fabric for kitchen - but not sure if it will be too dark.. This is tough!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you want to close it all the way? What''s your light exposure? I wouldn''t do dark unless you have a lot of light in the space. I like the idea of a pattern.

Penny's options

I realize you are getting these custom made...but here are a few options and color choices...perhaps you can point to a few styles or colors within this link and obtain better advice with actual shades?

When you are trying to describe your green...is there perhaps a shade or pattern in any of these that is close?

Just trying to help your direction find it's way with a visual aid.

LOVE LOVE LOVE your kitchen by the way! Yumminess!

PS. I would like to see you try a heavy brocade material. Your surfaces and finishes are top notch quality and I think that a rich thick texture will express that regal touch I don't see in your first choice. For example, look at the balloon shades within this link. They extend a touch of billowy luxury that I think your kitchen is craving. Oh, I would go darker than lighter in opaque-ness as well as color.

Would your DH object to any red or color in the pattern or is it an overall red? I just think you need some color and pattern, I see alot of browns and uniformity. I like the idea of balloon shade too, but depends on your windows. How about valances? That way you can inject color without overpowering the room?

PS I love your kitchen as well, but you already knew that!

I am working with BALI and must adhere to their selections. The Material I choose at first was very rich looking, it just faded
out with direct sunlight

It was a Bronze Color Silk like material, with a slight pattern to it. THe JCP blinds are alot less money .. and don''t look that much different.

I paid about 700.00 for two windows, due to the fact that I had a 300.00 gift card to use. I am thinking of going with a damask but I am limited to color.. either beige or dark brown.. and it is tone on tone..very subtle.

Is that last color option you offered similar to your granite? It is such a small computer swatch it is hard to judge it from such a teeny piece. I actually like it. Does the manufacturer offer images of the material used in display? Seeing how much light comes through sure helps in picking out materials for windows.

Are there any within the pennys link that look similar to your tone on tone option? Damask and Brocade both extend elegance...I am sure you would love the damask choice too.

I remember that you were working with that one company, I didn''t mean to add the pennys link for confusion, only a tool to help express your options better. Okie dokie?

ok well based on those limitations I would say either the striped material you posted above (which looks quite nice) or a dark brown and than add splashes of color in your kitchen accessories, table cloth etc. Also wouldn't lining the shades prevent the sun effect?
I'm also considering custom romans and was shocked at the prices (500/window). So I am now more likely to buy a fabric I love and have them made elsewhere.

oh and do you mind me asking what type of granite that it is..it's so intriguing and looks slightly different in each shot!

Have you visited the American Blind and Wallpaper Company for a price? http://www1.americanblinds.com/BlindCategoryProduct.aspx?blindid=9&blindname=Roman%20Shades
They carry the Bali brand and it may be cheaper than what the retail stores offer. We purchased all our pleated shades through them and saved a ton of money ordering from them.

what about using reed or matchstick wood blinds? you can have liners and the colors are great - easy to blend.

I have decided to go with a Chocolate Brown Satin Roman Shade over my sink.. satin (looks like silk)
and go with the Silk Stripe I posted, in the dining area.

They compliment each other ,,, and it won''t be too much stripes.

I have to reorder with Bali since the blinds have already been paid for. They were nice to offer to make another pair in a different fabric since I was unhappy with the first order.

This is through Lowes... everyone has been very helpful

Plus I had an extra 10% off coupon in addition to the 15 % off sale.. It beat the online sites..

I will post once they are complete

Thanks

Sounds great! Are the stripes also through Bali/Lowes? Look forward to pics of it all (including the dining room) when you''re done!

UPDATE...lol. I actually decided to order both windows with the Silk Stripe fabric.

I will post the completed pictures once I receive the shades.

The reason for this post is more of a PSA... I priced the shades at lowes, and found them to be over $900.00 .
I went to JCP and with their Friends and Family Sale , plus and addition 15% off coupon they were 200.00 less.

Well, the Lowes I went to matched JCPs price plus gave me an additional 10% off...!!!! I found different LOWES stores to have different attitudes to price matching.. I worked with two others in the past ( it also depends on the Sales Associate/Dept Mgr on duty ) but I really got lucky with the people at this particular store.. They were the ones to tell me the "HAD TO " give me an additional 10% off the lower price I found at JCP ... Unbelieveable.. so In the end I saved an additional 79.00 on top of the price match..gotta love it.. The Shades were stil $$$$.. but hopefully they will be worth it in the long run. Try to shop around , and ask Lowes to match the lowest price you find.

I also purchased a nice pair of Dark Brown pinch pleated panels to hang on the larger window, in addition to the Roman shades. I think this will complement the look..

That''s awesome!! See.. if we didn''t all share information we wouldn''t even know about the price gouging that goes on with Roman Shades! (and I take it JCP had the exact same shades).

Anyway, I ran to read your post b/c I was hoping for pics--can''t wait to see the!!!

Hi Janine.. You are too cute.. The Roman Shades are Custom Made by Bali''s .. so Many stores order from the same book
They are part of the Custom Tailored Line, and I believe the Heirloom collection

I choose the Silk Stripe in Espresso.. I promise to post pictures, but I think there is a six week turn around time.

Sorry I didn''t have pictures to share.

Too late now, but I would have gone with Top/down-Bottom/up shades. I love being able to lower the shade from the top. Total privacy, but plenty of light.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I do not care for them... To me, it looks like the shade is broken.
