I'm trying to gauge the value of the gemologist inspection at James Allen. I have 3 diamonds on hold, awaiting inspection. I'd like to have the diamond and setting in hand by a certain date and that won't be possible if I wait for the inspection.

Will the gemologist's inspection give me valuable information regarding the stone and help me make a decision? Or would I be better off just making the decision myself, given the information provided in the reports. The diamonds I have held are below. I had my eye on the 1.19 carat and am leaning towards making the plunge, but it was held for about a week and is now back on the market, so it gives me pause, not knowing whether it was released due to an inspection or not.

Anyone have any experiences with a JA gemologist inspection?

I can not comment directly on the diamonds themselves but an si1 needs inspection.
A knot on the crown is generally not a good thing, the crystal can get knocked out leaving a cavity lowering the clarity and value.
A grade setting crystal can be eye visible in an si1 diamond.
Clouds and surface graining not show comment is also something that needs to be looked at.

I again can not comment on JA's inspection but to me but to me someone inspecting the diamond is a very important consideration.
That is just my opinion.
I put it in a separate post because it is my preference and not everyone will agree.

Hi, I'm an absolute novice, but wanted to say, just because it was on hold and then returned to the market doesn't mean there was anything found wrong with it. You have three diamonds on hold, you may decide to buy one or none and so all three may be returned to the market.

All the best with the search.
