Help with halo setting

Hi all,

I am currently in the process of getting an engagement ring setting made for my OH. I am hoping to get elements of this setting replicated by an overseas vendor (it is a Leon piece - unfortunately he is out of my price range).


I really like the square look of the halo with a round centre stone. I'm having trouble trying to figure out the size of the melee in the halo. The centre stone in the pic is 1ct (7mm) and I think there are 3-4 different melee sizes in the halo. I'm thinking the largest melee in the corners are 1.5mm and they taper down to 1.2mm. Does that look about right? At this stage the centre stone I'm looking at will more than likely be a sapphire around the 7.5mm mark which may change the melee size a fraction.

My last engagement ring was from BE, and I would recommend them any day. I had a plain shank, but the halo was a square shape around a 1.5ct round I actually still have the setting because it was that beautiful.

Just curious, but why would you need to figure out the size of the melee? That would normally be the job of the CAD artist. When you receive the CAD, you can see if you like the proportions and if not, you can ask for the CAD to be modified. If you like it, you can request the CAD artist tell you what size(s) of stones are in the CAD and how many of each size if they are not all the same.

Of course, it is often hard to tell exactly how thick the metal is going to be on the prongs, as there is more metal in the CAD than well be left after stone setting and polishing.

Working with a good CAD artist can make a huge difference in whether or not you are happy with the finished piece.
