Hi All! I am considering a five stone RHR and have been scouring the five stone ring threads here for a couple of months. I am thinking about a ~2.25ct round or ~2.5ct square cushion cut (total ct) to maximize finger coverage.
I love the look of cushion cut stones, but it seems like there are very few who have five stone rings with them. Also, because there isn’t a set of specifications for cutting cushions, the stones can vary so much, and it is challenging to find 5 matching stones. Most of the jewelers I have spoken with can order a melee so the cushions match, but the cushion melee is more expensive than rounds or certified cushions stones of a similar size, and I am worried about the quality of cutting.
I could also do a more traditional round five stone, I just don’t love the V shaped gap at the bottom and top of the stones, where they meet. I think by going with a four prong per stone setting, this gap could be minimized. That being said, I haven’t seen a lot of four prong/stone settings except for a trellis. My e-ring is a Vatche three stone round trellis, and I was hoping for something a little different.
I love my ideal cut round diamond and am worried that I am going to miss the H&A with a cushion. Am I making a mistake wanting cushions? Are they going to have less fire? Should I stick with a traditional 5 stone round and see if I can find a setting to minimize their roundness?
