I''ve been lurking the forums for a couple of weeks now and I think I am ready to make a purchase. I am looking for nice 1.02-1.15 ct, D-F, no lower than a vs1, princess cut. I find that the really nice ones with a Sarin and Ideal Scope, cost near what retail stores are asking for a decent diamond. I was hoping to save a grand or two by buying online. I can spend around 5k for the stone.

I found a 1.09 F VS1 but I don''t have much info on it. Only a GIA report and Ideal Scope image. What do you guys think?

1.09ct
F
VS1
Polish Very Good
Symmetry Very Good
Fluorescence None
Depth 74.20
Table 70
Girdle Medium to slightly thick
measurements 5.70 x 5.61 x 4.20
ratio 1.02

Not loving it. It appears to be a regular commercial quality princess like you would find in many stores. The center will be bright, but that doesn''t carry to the corners or edges. A real top cut princess will have great corner to corner brightness, which also causes the stone to appear larger.

Not bad cut consistency but plenty of leakage (or glare?) in the image. Unfortunately Ideal-Scope shows all light return as red. That's fine for rounds but not fancy shapes. An ASET image would show areas of intense vs less intense light return; from which conclusions can be made about brightness and contrast.

Just for comparison, here is a very well cut princess stone. Also on the page is a video comparing a top cut to a commercial cut.

You will pay more for a top cut princess, but IMHO the performance is well worth it. I know it is an SI1 clarity, but this F color would be a great choice in your budget.

HI:

I wasn''t able to find anything with your carat weight/color/clarity/cost parameters with AGS certification (WF or Cut by Infinity). Any flexibility in color or clarity to hit the carat mark and get an "ideal" cut?

cheers--Sharon

Thanks for the replies. Ya, I didn't think the image looked that great. I would love to jump all over that 0.90, but I don't know if I could settle for a SI1.

I could drop down in everything. 0.85, VS2, G, maybe H if its over a ct.

Not loving this image either...

You actually find a spot of center leakage in many princess diamonds. In most cases it is not visible once set. Also keep in mind how small that spot is in real life, the whole diamond is ~5.4mm across, so that spot of leakage is ~.5mm. The cut on the F is slightly better, but how well those small details transfer to live viewing is the question. The WF stone is probably better than 97% or more of the princess cuts out there, the GOG would be more like 99.5%.

Either one will look great, so it may come down to a choice of color and slightly better cut versus larger size. The difference in face up size is about .2mm, which may be noticeable if side by side, but not once set. The WF stone does give bragging rights for being over 1ct, you just need to ask yourself how important that point is to your gf. Some girls want to be able to say they have a 1ct diamond, others don't care.

I am thinking about coming down a bit in price.. looking for something no smaller than 0.70 from WF or GOG.

In regards to the WF ACA stones.. with my limited experience, am I correct to say the two 0.7 stones are cut better based on the numbers and the aset image?

I''m not too fond of the 3 0.70 gog stones. Seems all the tables are kinda small but they do well on the gemex reports. I assume a smaller table would make a stone look smaller? Are those gemex light reports the real deal?

Decisions decisions... maybe I''ll hold off till some more stock comes in. I feel a 0.85 G-I is what I am looking for.

hey there. I went with WF for their ACA princess cuts diamonds. I LOVED what they have, and I loved working with them to find the perfect diamond and setting. If you have not called them, I would recommend calling and chatting about it. I found this diamond for you, take a look and tell me what you think

White Flash 2

I have also included a picture of the ring that I got. The diamond is .77 ct, E, VS2... hopefully this will give you a better idea if you are willing to drop down in size and INCREASE IN CUT!! :D

White Flash also has a 100% upgrade policy. If I ever decide to go bigger than the .77, I can deff look to trade it in if need be. I also thought cut>size.. but its your (lol the girlfriend''s) preference!

oh, i just went back and read your original post. With $5000 for the diamond alone, im sure you can find bigger than the ones I offered. Sorry about that. My .77 was MUCH less than that.

I guess what I wanted to say was hang in there with finding the right diamond. If WF/GOG/Infinity doesn''t have a diamond you want at the moment, call them up and ask them to find THE right one for you. I don''t think it would take long if you give a diamond consultant the heads up of what you are looking for. That way, when they get a new diamond coming in, they can check it out and see if its something you want.

Good luck :)

HI:

Have you looked here?

Their prices seem pretty high compared to other online stores that off the same information with their stones.

On the plus side, I found a setting I love and will very likely buy. Its Tacori of course. Just need to find the diamond :/

Please remember that there is a 5% pricescope wire transfer discount. Also, please remember that putting the same information with the diamonds does not mean that the diamonds are as well cut. We are actually quite proud of the value that we offer, which goes well beyond what you are apparently seeing.

I am allowed to respond to questions and to correct misrepresentations, but I believe I have gone about as far as I can without violating forum rules. Let''s just say that I do disaggree with your statement.

Wink is right. you definitely can''t go on numbers alone, Infinity has some of the higher quality cut princess diamonds out there. Make sure you are looking at the IS image as well as the ASET. From what i have heard, an ideal cut princess will appear larger compared to a lesser quality cut. Someone correct me on this if I am wrong.

Like i said, take your time and find that perfect diamond. If you don''t mind 3/4 ct. diamonds check out

Infinity

Appreciate the replies. Sorry for the price comment wink. Maybe I am overlooking the overall stats of your diamonds which do seem to be of the best quality out there. I am trying to sacrifice either clarity (not eye visible) or color so I can buy a top cut princess diamond for a decent price.

Well, I think I found what I want. I''m sold on that Tacori setting. Just need to flash the cash.

Thanks for all the help. I ended up buying the 0.90 F SI1 that jet2ks linked from GOG along with the Tacori setting. Its going to take 5 weeks to come in. Thanks again

Good luck. :)
