Hi All!

I just joined this forum but have been absorbing all of your wisdom on this website for the past couple of weeks. For someone that is new to the industry, this site has been a tremendously helpful way to get up to speed, so thank you to you all!
Anyways, I am currently in the midst of a stressful process of buying an engagement ring/diamond and thought it could be a good idea to ask for some expert help :)
The person for whom the ring is being picked likes classic things so I'm going with a brilliant round cut and a platinum solitaire setting (probably 6-prong?) and I am looking to find the best price-for-quality diamond for that option. After some research, I've narrowed it down to the following criteria: ideal cut (most important criteria for me), H color (looking for a white stone although I wonder if I could still be okay with I color? I've read some mixed opinions on this.), VS1/2 clarity, no fluorescence. In terms of the size I am trying to triangulate between a size range of 1.45 - 2.00 and a stone budget of $13-16k (although could stretch to $18k for an exceptional stone). Does anyone have any recommendations on how to go about finding the best stone that fits these parameters?
Thank you in advance for any and all help!

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I think an H is a great color for the money. You might be ok with an I if you’re not color sensitive. Have you seen diamonds in real life? I’ve found that LED lighting tends to cause diamonds to have more visible color so keeping in mind the lighting environment that the stone will be worn in would be prudent. As far as the budget, you have a great one but you might need to compromise a bit to get into the higher range of the Carat spectrum you specified. I think a 1.5ct -1.7ct stone could be great.

As far as the setting, there are a lot of options. Take a look and if you need advice I’m sure the community here would give you excellent feedback.

Good luck!
