Help with setting….

Hi all, how is everyone today!?!? Friday here in sunny Australia so a weekend is just around the corner!!

I just need to get some advice/thoughts on these two settings. I know they are both similar, simple and….well, perfect but unless I plan on marrying two women I can only choose one (and for all you women out there who are about to say that I can buy my other half TWO rings, or that I can donate one to you …..forget it!!

)

I love both settings, but just need some thoughts from others before I make that final decision.

The plan

Here is what I am after – simple, elegant, white gold solitaire setting, (from Whiteflash who are providing the diamond).

The Diamond

Still making final decisions, but it will be ROUND BRILLIANT – about 0.80- 0.9 carats (so around 6mm in diameter) aiming for a H in colour, VS2/SI1, excellent cut, eye clean etc. I have a couple of diamond options im working through with WF at the moment.

The Ring Options

Basically, with the guidance of Katie from Whiteflash, I have narrowed it down to 2 options.

First, a standard LEGATO SLEEK LINES from the WF collection.

Second, a MODIFIED SEMI-CUSTOM SETTING, taking the band/swept up shank of the legato sleek lines and combining with the 6 prong basket from the tiffany style ring, similar to that previously made for the PS forum member called Hawaii 5-0.

There is only around $250 difference in the cost, so not a big consideration

The Thoughts

Like I said, a simple, elegant solitaire…..initially I was looking for something exactly like the six prong semi-custom, but fell in love with the legato along the way….

I love both settings, the swept up shank is a must, I love the ‘roundness’ that the semi-custom provides to the stone with its six prongs, but feel like the legato setting might show off the stone more……

My girlfriend is very petite and has very small hand (around size 4-4.5) – will the legato be more ‘elegant’ and suit her small hand better. But then the semi-custom is perfect….but so is the legato……but so is the semi-custom……but I love the legato…….but ………arrrrrghhhhhhh!!!

One final thing, my other half would like a ring where the diamond that doesn’t sit up too high…..but I guess both are roughly equal in this respect?!

Which will a wedding band sit better next to?!?

Any ideas and thoughts would be greatly appreciated – just so that I can make that final decision and know that I’ve taken everything into account…..

And if anyone says that both settings are equally nice……

….arrgghhhhhh!?!

Ay help or comment greatly appreciated! Thanks all so much in advance!

SEMI-CUSTOM, shown here from previous post by PS member Hawaii 5-0 (think this diamond is around the 1.3c mark, so mine would be smaller)

I like the 2nd one (6 prong) IMO

I really like the Legato. I think it is one of the nicest solitaire settings around.

I''d go with the Legato Sleek Line. It is unique but elegant.

I vote for the Legato Sleek line, so elegant and classic.

I vote Legato aswell - I will be getting this setting myself though so I''m biased!
But seriously, I think its lovely and for me, a stone of ~1ct can sometimes look somewhat overwhelmed by 6 prongs..

Ditto :)

I vote for the legato! I prefer 4-prong settings for round stones, and the legato head is really gorgeous.

ETA: As for the low profile, I think the Legato is a little lower in the pictures, but both could probably be made to sit as low as possible.

I would go with the Legato. I have a 6mm stone on a six prong setting and I am starting to believe a 4 prong is more complimentary to a stone our size.

I agree that four prongs will be better for a stone that size. I vote Legato.

Thankyou so much for your comments people - I think you have all swayed me and I think I''m going to settle on the Legato Sleek Line......

In the last hour or so I ahve been looking at a range of other threads regarding setings and come accross this one showing Dreamers ring (a 0.81 carat round stone in a legato setting):

Think the bueatiful pictures right through this thread help in showing that the legato is indeed a timeless classic.......

Thanks so much for all your comments so far !

I vote #2. I am partial to 6-prong settings. I like how it gives a rounder look, and if one of the prongs breaks, I have 5 more to hold it in.

Count me in with the rest of the Legato lovers. dreamer_daschie''s Legato is sooooo pretty!
