I have been shopping around for engagement rings for a while now. My qyestion is this. I really wanted to buy a diamond with F color (colorless). My problem is, that most engagement rings with diamonds in the channel don''t have colorless diamonds in them (the ones I am looking at). It states that you may be able to notice the color difference between F and G, H, I if they are side by side. So should I bump my colorless top diamond down to a G so it matches more with the channel diamonds. That would maket hem all in the near colorless range. I should probably only get the F color if I plan on getting a solitare right? I plan on using white gold of course.

Thank you for any input.

Hi Daniel:

Welcome to PS!

Your center stone will be larger than the stones set in the channel so there shouldn't be a problem with having an F colour beside the smaller H stones. I would stick with the F as you can see more colour the larger a stone is. Also, make sure the stone has a great cut as that will be even more important than the colour.

I agree I don''t think you will be able to tell the difference between an F center stone and smaller G or H sidestones when they are set. My three stone ring has an F in the center and G diamonds on the sides and they all look exactly the same. On the other hand you could save some money by dropping the color on that center stone!

Thanks. Appreciate it.
