I tried on a princess cut ring in Tiffany and absolutely loved it - it was brilliant cut, 0.8 carats, color h, I think the clarity was down the scale (the assistant mentioned 10 x maginifation so i'm assuming maybe S1). It cost around 9k before tax.

I purchased one online which was less expensive/better specs - signature ideal, E, VVS2 clarity, 0.9 carats in a petite solitaire setting and.... I don't like it. The diamond seems tiny and the metal around the diamond looks chunky. The diamond is very sparkly so I have no issue with that.

Can anyone help me out on what went wrong or what I should be looking for? I can post the detailed specs later if it could be that. I was so disappointed when it arrived (and so guilty for my fiance buying me this and I didn't like it despite choosing it myself). The budget is 6/7k.

I wasn't attached to the Tiffany ring/brand, so I don't think its that.

Can you post some pictures?

Thanks...

I don't think it looks tiny. I'll be honest though, I think the prongs look too chunky (I think v prongs should be used on square stones). If you post the rest of the specs of the ring, maybe the experts can determine something based on the measurements (ie. if its too deep, it will face up smaller?).

Thanks for responding, i think it was the prongs but they had no other settings for that cut (well none with other prongs). I sent it back as i couldn't see any alternatives.

I have found one i liked so will start a new thread as need to choose between diamonds!
