Hi All,

I am trying to pick an engagement ring for my fiance. We have seen one that she really likes. Its a 1 carat, D color, SI1, excellent cut. I used the online HCA tool which rates the ring as a 1.0 excellent but I'm still a bit clueless as to whether or not this is a good choice.

I'm love some help on 2 areas please:

1. My fiance seems happy with an SI1 as its not visible to her but when I look at the GIA report it looks like a pretty bad SI1 compared to some of the others I checked. I'm basing this purely on the fact that I can see a lot of red marks on the diagram for this ring compared to other GIA graded rings. Could someone take a look (GIA#2151989936) to see if this is just my lack of understanding or a genuine concern.

2. The price I have been quoted through a jewelry dealer in Australia is $11,650 Australian Dollars (about $10,250 US Dollars). Does this seem reasonable?

Cheers
Mike

The inclusions are small and are mostly outside of the table area. But it's a 60/60 type of make and might be inclined more toward brilliance than fire. You might want to consider a smaller table / steeper & taller crown / slightly more depth for more fire.

^ Tood Gray of NiceIce was perhaps the origin of the "cheatsheet."

Color is personal preference. But if you want a the colorless D, then the higher color is what you need. I can go down to H and be totally happy.
