Hello All -

I am searching for a ~3 ct diamond for an engagement ring. I found one that seems good to me, but was hoping to get some feedback:

http://www.whiteflash.com/round/Round-cut-diamond-352816.htm

Also, if I were to buy this, or any other loose diamond, how would I have it set? I have a local jeweler who can get me the setting, but I am nervous about taking in a loose diamond to have it set by another jeweler. What is the normal procedure?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I personally would keep looking! I would go a little smaller for a better quality. You can get a better but diamond that looks just as big as that one. Why such a big diamond, is that a must for you??? You will really limit your setting selection with a rock that big also! Second what kind of setting are you looking for??

As for having it set local they will set what ever you want for a nice fee and charge you for the mounting your putting it in. As long as they are making a profit they will do what ever you would like!

If it were me I would look for another stone. Something that is certified by either GIA or AGS. You should have the loose stone independently appraised then take it into your jeweler and have it set and take it back to your appraiser to have it appraised again.

Welcome to PS!

This probably isn't an in house diamond by the look of it, but a virtual listing which you would have to ask the guys at WF about. It is also a highly desirable size. Also there isn't enough info to properly judge the cut. If you bought from a company such as WF, they can set the diamond for you, or custom make a setting if that is what you wanted no problem. Sometimes if you buy a diamond from one company and have another set it, the company doing the setting won't guarantee the diamond against breakage - accidents are rare, but they can happen, so that might be a consideration to get it all done by the same company. Also EGL graded diamonds tend to have a lower price tag than GIA and AGS, you can do a search to get more info on this.
