Hi,

I am new to Pricescope and would appreciate any help on diamond selection. I am looking for a diamond in the price range of $8500USD. I am very particular and want something with extreme brilliance, a minimun of 1 carat, no visible impurities, and colorless once mounted. I am currently interested in this diamond by James Allen which scores 0.8 n HCA.

Is this a good price? Should I be opting for a higher color grade?

Size is important to me, however not at the compromise of quality.

Thanks again so much in advance.

face-up, a G will look colorless to most people.

here is an F if you want a colorless stone. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5203/

Looks like a winner!

Very nice.

I see nothing comparable on the search by cut database (and...not even this one!).

You''ll be totally fine with that one. Great choice.

Nice recommendation Julie,
Great H&A, optimal optical symmetry and minimum light leakage!
This should be a beauty from GOG:)

Thanks everyone for your post and quick response!! This place is great!!

Thanks for your recommendation. I am slightly concerned about SI1 as I have heard differing opinions. Some saying that SI1 has visible flaws if you look very closely and to be 100% safe I should stick with a minimum of VS2.

Hi there,

I was initially looking at this one:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1197584.asp

But when I found the HCA tool which ranked this a 2.2 I became discouraged. I was not sure as to whether to go with the better color or better HCA score.
Sorry, but how did you even know how it scored on the HCA for this one...as I can''t pull up the GIA report?

However, take two diamonds...with even identically good HCA scores, and even same stated proportions, but one is GIA Excellent, and the other AGS with 0 for light performance, and all else is equal (not quite in this case, sure). I''d always pick the AGS option...because...without other info, only has it been measured closely and confirmed for it''s ray tracing and "ideal" light performance.

SI clarities are not created equal and visions differ, so what you will need to do is to check that a diamond of SI clarity is eyeclean to your standards by checking with a trusted vendor. For example, if you don't want to see any inclusions from any angle at close scrutiny, make sure the vendor knows that.

Can you provide the angles for the JA diamond please?
