Good Morning folks,

I am looking for a 1-1.5 ct diamond stone thru blue nile and jamesallen.

The setting the I am looking at is a verragio setting.
http://www.verragio.com/Verragio-Engagement-Rings/Insignia-Engagement-Rings/INSIGNIA-7070P?slide=&s_prod_ring_type=engagement&s_col_id=0&s_price_range=0&s_prod_shape=princess&s_prod_setting=&s_order_by=prod_id&s_is_search=&s_prod_metal_type=white&s_prod_gemstones

I am a complete noob in selecting a diamond. my price range is anywhere from 6-7.5 grand on the center stone and my gf likes either a princess cut or a heart shape diamond. I prefer a princess cut so i am going thru that route.

I was wondering if you can help select a diamond and find me a similar setting to the verragio setting.
I want the best cut avail as i know that will what make the diamond shine, and the cut and clarity can range. I understand that you can get a bigger diamond with a lower clarity and color and wont make a difference in the view of the diamond unless looked at by a microscope.
ANy help would be appreciated!! the budget for the setting is 1500-2000. Thank you for any help!!

Honestly - I'd go with Whiteflash. They are a verragio dealer, and it's MUCH easier to have the stone and setting at the same place. WF has tons of ideal cut stones - A Cut Above (ACA) is the top of the line proven performers, but the Expert selections can be a great value (they are usually outstanding stones that "just missed" the ACA designation for some small, usually insignificant, discrepancy).

Thanks for the help! Now I just need to find a GIA diamond on whiteflash.

Whiteflash's top cuts are AGS graded.

I would prefer a GIA certified diamond.

Is there a reason you prefer only GIA? AGS grades as strictly as the GIA but provides better detail on the diamond's cut and light performance, which arguably is the most important if you want a sparkly diamond. If you don't care about light return, brilliance, or sparkle and just care about color and clarity, then GIA broadens your options.

I hope you realize that the majority of GIA excellent cuts are far below AGS cut standards, the most stringent in the industry. GIA might be a more recognizable name to you, but AGS 0 Ideal cuts are the cream of the crop. Limiting yourself to only GIA stones is a mistake.

The reason why I would perfer a GIA diamond is because most of the Asian diamond jewelers are only going buy the diamond if its GIA certified. I am just thinking long term as I know once i make more money I definately want to move into the 2ct range.

Nothing against GIA, but you'll need to search for stones within a certain set of proportions to insure that you get a truly ideal cut. GIA Excellent has extremely wide parameters and includes/favors a lot of steep and deep cuts which are actually far from ideal.

Also, AGS is the only lab that has a true grading system for princess cuts and ideal light performance.

is it possible to get it graded by ags and gia?

Absolutely. You just need to have your vendor/jeweler send the loose stone in for you along with the lab fee. I only keep mentioning AGS because of their reputation in the industry for cut standards. If you're looking for an ideal princess cut, I'd actually buy an AGS 0 princess and do the additional report with GIA. That way, you know you're starting with a truly ideal stone that will also grade GIA Ex. If you go GIA Ex with the wider cut specs, you can only hope the stone makes AGS 0 princess grading. Make sense?

Any thoughts on why i shouldn't get that diamond from wf?

That's a very nice stone and with AGS 0 and A Cut Above specs, there's absolutely nothing to worry about. You're in the top-of-the-line category. For H color, it should face up very white and sparkle beautifully. These newer super ideal cut princess stones can make near colorless stones easily look a few grades higher.

Only other consideration is exactly that - color. You mentioned Asia, so I assume you're in Japan or elsewhere where culturally, color and clarity are huge. A possible alternative would be to drop in size slightly (maybe 1.1) and move up to G/VS1, but it's up to you. You're already in a very good place and going with an AGS 0-rated princess vs. GIA Ex/other cuts is something you won't regret in the least.
