I am thinking about purchasing a 2.01 ct round diamond and hoping for some guidance on the measurements. The stone I am considering is 8.06 x 7.98 x 4.95. Depth 61.7% Width 57%. I read on another post that a 2 ct should be about 8.15. Would this be a "small" looking 2 ct since it is under the 8.15? Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks - Scott

A well cut 2 carat stone should be 8.2mm in diameter according to one of my favorite books on diamonds.

You might want to do a search on round diamonds using the search engine at the top of the page. That will give you a range.

Hope this helps.

yap, the stone ideally should be about 8.2mm diameter. So probably not that well cut. Do you have the crown and pavilion angles of that stone?

I really appreciate the response. It is an EGL graded stone so I have the Crown Height 15% and Pavilion Depth 43%. I put the numbers in the Holloway Cut Advisor on the Pricescope website and the Light Return is Excellent, Fire is Excellent, Scintillation is Excellent, Spread is Very Good and Total Visual performance is 1.3 Excellent within the TIC range. Is this good? How accurate is this tool?

Quite accurate. But don't work that well with % due to approximation of the % and from these numbers recalculate back to angles, works better with angles.

EDT:
Slightly smaller diameter is not that bad. I think this is less than 5% off. But EGL is known to be softer in grading for clarity and color, best to get it check out by an independent appraiser.

I agree that 8.2 is a guide, but can be a bit less. However, if I''m paying for that carat mark, I want it fairly close.

The thing is, you can get a stone just under 2 cts., and it will look the same in a ring, and you save money.

Blu, would you mind sharing the name of the book? I''m wondering about diameters of other carat sizes and would love a reference to check. OP, sorry to hijack your thread.

Hi saa

If you like, post all the info on the diamond such as the crown and pavilion angles then we can help you judge the cut.
