Calling Australian PSers who have sold to the US! Has anyone here sold a piece of jewellery over $2000AUD to someone in the US? I went to post an item today with a value well over $2000AUD, and I was told I needed to fill out an Export Declaration Form to get a number. Problem is there are no customs offices where I live. Has anyone done this and managed to do it another way?
@Bron357? @arkieb1?

I will send most things registered signed for delivery, no insurance. Expensive things I send via Auspost international Courier with signed for delivery. It’s not cheap. But really fast and secure. You can buy insurance (extra cost) for up to $5,000. While I haven’t send sold jewellery OS valued more than $2,000, apparently the export declaration doesn't apply to “personal effects” and by definition, jewellery / clothes, bags etc a “personal effects”. So ?
i would contact Fed Ex, it will be expensive but they can do the export declaration forms and provide insurance for you.

Thank you Bron, that's incredibly helpful! Fedex won't insure over $1000 unfortunately. I'll try Auspost Courier.

Auspost Courier can't help either. I'll keep searching!

Can you ship to an appraiser and have him or her help with the shipment logistics? Not sure who would be responsible for the appraisal fee... split?

That's a good thought yssie, although going to the most reliable appraisers here would warrant a trip to Melbourne, where I may as well just go to a customs office. I think I have found a courier who can help me out. Thanks for taking the time to post!

Australia Post does ship and insure for more that $1999.00 but you will have to fill in a form and get a number AND the person at the other end has to pay taxes or duties.... see my email reply.

Thank you so much @arkieb1!! Lifesaver!
