I am having a custom setting done for my 0.91 asscher.
It is going to have...a halo simmilar to Lovey''s, the bars holding the halo up like the Tiffany''s legacy ring (simple one), 3 side pave 2/3 shank, and 3 surprise diamonds on each side like the more ornate legacy. The surprise stones are going to be in a square set rather than a round to mimmic the asscher with the top one turned on it''s side in a diamond shape.
So my question is, cause I cannot decide, should I get the yellow diamonds set in the yellow gold or get all white diamonds for the surprise stones????
Will the yellow look bad??? Will it take away from the asscher??
Can you set yellow diamonds in platinum?? Would they look right??
Oh by the way it is a RHR. I have only WG and Platinum jewelry....no yellow gold....
I am having a hard time picturing it in my mind so anyone who can photoshop the look I would really appreciate it!!!!

I should get to see the wax pics on monday so I am going to have to make a decision soon...
Any and all opinions wecome and very much appreciated!!

you don't like blue? or red?

I don''t want to do blue...I have a few blus sapphire rings.....I never thought about red
What kind of red stone?

Bright red ruby! No purplish red.

Blue and red just really pop against white, so I thought they might be good surprise stones.

So Julie.....you don''t like the idea of yellow??

KtIceRN, because of the construction of the ring yellow gold set yellow diamond may affect the look of your asscher from the top.
And unless the asscher is yellow itself (?) you will have a look of a lower color center stone.

I will try to photoshop surprize Princesses into the side view. They are princesses aren''t they?

I don't really like the idea of yellow for some reason. My choice would be pink surprise diamonds (or pink sapphires). Now that would be gorgous.

Here is how i understood surprise stones positions, if it''s not right please tell.
They are not exactly "sapphire" blue, so may be you will not be bored.

I love the idea of yellow diamond surprise stones...but I''d want them to stand out...maybe intense yellow...

Pink?!?!?
I didn''t think about that.....

But aren''t pink usually set in rose gold??
I don''t think I want a different colored metal...just platinum.
That''s why I was not sure about the yellow...
Maybe I''ll just so all white diamonds....
I don''t want to take away from the asscher...
I don''t know what to do

Yup that is how the surprise one''s will look...thanks for the photoshop.

I had the same thought as Irina, that the yellow gold and yellow stones might actually reflect off the asscher and make it look a lower color than it really is. I love love love that rendering with the blue stones.

Not necessary, it''s up to you. Here are pinks in platinum.

I like that alot!!!

Maybe pink would be perfect!!!
I don''t know if my budget will allow it but I will check...
What about pink just for the center surprise and white for the others??
Would that look funny?

Pink in the middle, yellow on the sides sounds good to me. It's my favorite combo.

Or white on the sides...

I just prefer really saturated color, so I'd go with intense sapphires.

Pink sapphires is a good option...cost affective
With white on the side...
how about a photoshop of that?????

When I thought about doing pink surprise diamonds/sapphires, the jeweler recommend just having the bezel around the diamonds/sapphires be rose gold. Everything else would be platinum. You wouldn't even really see it. It will make the pink more pinky. This is more of a problem with pink diamonds than pink sapphires I think, as you can find the sapphires affordably in intense pink. Either way would be very nice.

Here is Anne_H's pink sapphire surprise

Pink will tint an asscher too though

Jazmine thanks I had not seen her ring before. It is beautiful!!

Thanks for the photoshop.....I really like the one pink surprise with the two white....
If it is bezel set will the pink tint the asscher???
There will be about 240 diamonds totalling @1.5cts in the setting
It will have a halo so won''t that help with the tint??

Sometimes those surprises are set in a "tube" so it would be platinum under asscher's pavilion = no tint.

In your setting i think it will not be the case - it would be just a bezel around the girdle of a pink stone, so pink pavilion positioned under asscher's pavilion.

Halo is NOT in a way unfortunately, because surprise pink is not set vertically. But it's better see actual photos when you have them, meanwhile...

WOW.......that''s pretty!!!!
I definately like the pink!!!

Wax pics on monday!

Thanks!

Nice, I like it.

HI there-

I am wondering what you decided to do. I am designing a ring for myself, for a 20th anniversary update. I love yellow diamonds or saphires and am wondering how they would look in platinum vs yellow gold. Most of the ring will be platinum. I would love to know how things worked out for you-

Gail, check out this thread. She went with all white in the end, so it might not help you. (But it''s spectacular.)
