Thanks to everyone here on PS, we purchased the 3.11ct RB I posted earlier.

Now I need help with designing a setting. I am leaning towards a 6 prong, classic Tiffany solitaire but I would like some other suggestions from PS members. Also, I have never worked with a jeweler on a custom setting - what should I specifically mention about the crown, the band width, etc?

It seems like a lot goes into designing a setting so I appreciate any help with this process!

Thank you everyone for all your help, I hope I can help future shoppers with their E-Ring purchases based on everything I have learned from all of you!

Why would you design a 6 prong Tiffany solitaire and pay a design fee for that?

Frankly its a waste.

There are 100's of different ones. You should easily be able to find several that would work for you.

Go to Brian Gavins site, go for the Tapered Tiffany half round if you want comfort, or the knife edge one if you don't mind the knife edge. If you want hand forged but a look of its own rather than Tiffany products try Victor Canera's six prong setting. If you go with someone like Victor don't attempt to tell him the width or anything else, tell him you want to flatter the stone and let him do the rest, that is what you are paying him for.

Wow, Dolphin -- a 3 ct diamond! You're a lucky lady!! :appl:

If you want a classic 6 prong, I would highly recommend getting one from BG, Vatche, or any other "tried and true" PS vendor. To me, having one made is just asking for unnecessary trouble. If you like the idea of a "custom" setting, get one that's hand forged -- best of both worlds! Good luck to you!

Ask him to do this one with a plain shank.
