So in a diamond in the 1.5-1.75 range do you all think there is much color differences between say an H and a J? This would be an Ideal cut diamond such as ACA hearts and arrows. Also while I have such great perspective here there is one more thing. On a petite finger (ring size 4.5) do you think there would be noticeable differences to the eye between say a 1.59 that measures 7.49x7.52 and a 1.6 that measures 7.59x7.63?

Thanks in advance for you awesome wisdom!

Well, some might not agree with this sentiment BUT...with such a small finger size, I''d go with a smaller stone in a higher color. But that''s just me. Your finger is so small that a 1.5 will look substantial (lucky you, said by a 7.75 fingered gal!) on your finger so why not go for the better color, slightly smaller stone?

Agreed. I can see a difference in color once I go past H or so with a RB. Some can''t, I can, and it bothers me.

Let''s put it this way. If you were to set those two stones side by side, you would NEVER notice a size difference without laser eyes and a loupe. But you very well MIGHT notice the color difference. Remember that the distance between an I and a J can be a LOT wider than the color distance between say a D and an E. Something to keep in mind.

Just my 0.02!

hard to answer....
it really depends a lot on the person and then the actual color grade itself (is it a 'high' h that is closer to a 'g' in color vs. a 'low' j that is closer to k in color?) there can be big differences. the 'color' spectrum gets bigger the farther you go down the line (the 'j' range encompasses a broader range of color than those above it.. k, even bigger and so on)

in general, i would say that if you are fine with the 'color' of an 'h' diamond, than the little extra of a 'j' won't bother you. especially in a well cut stone. they are both going to face up very white but you may notice some 'warmth' if you directly compare to a stone of higher color.

not even side by side. they will be indistiguishable by size.

The way a diamond looks for size can vary based on perception of how light comes out of it to your eye. Identically sized diamonds can appear somewhat diffreent in diameter even when they are identical.

THe H to J is visible and may someday become an issue for an occasional owner. Most folks who buy a J color are aware and it poses no real problem. People do compare diamonds for color but rarely for size/weight relationship.

I can see the difference between H and J. I think I color is the borderline color to consider if you need to stay within a budget to get the size you want. My personal preference was for H or higher. I might consider a high I color, too. I''d also stay closer to 1.5 and get a higher color, but that''s just me.
