New here! Just looking for some expert opinions or insights on the proportions for two round brilliants I am tossing up between for an engagement ring. Have narrowed down to these two options. First GIA graded 1.7 carat I've put a deposit on, but had a look of the second IGI graded 1.67 carat and now I can't decide. One has macro video imaging and the second only has a photo. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello and welcome to PriceScope, Hilselk!
You have two diamonds that look great with proportions and angles that are spot-on in the sweet spot. Either would be a great choice!

I agree, they are both beautiful! I have a very slight preference for the proportions of the 1.67.

So I got to have a look at the 1.7 carat today in person..I've attached a photo I would love to know what you think

Hi Kim!

Thank you for your reply, I wish I could see the 1.67 in person but it would take 3 weeks to arrive and I need to make a decision soon. I've posted a photo of the 1.70 in person, would love to know your thoughts, I'm not very experienced with diamonds

Does the diamond look nice and bright in regular viewing, or does it usually look like it does in this photo?

Honestly I don't even remember! I was in a rush so had a quick look and snapped this pic but tbh I didn't have another point of reference to go off. When I look back at the picture I feel sort of unsure, it does look a bit dull, I wish I had the time to have a better look and take more pics. Just don't understand why it would seeing as all the specs fall within a good range

Looks darned good! Nice contrast showing the arrows!
What do you think now that you've laid eyes on it?

Thank you! Honestly I remember it looking alright at the time but I look back at the picture now and am wondering if it looks kind of dull! I like the contrast of the arrows but in the absence of seeing it set on a ring with the grey background I don't know what to think!

Garry H (Cut Nut) sells ASET scopes from his Ideal-Scope website (he invented both tools)...small investment to ensure you are getting the best diamond for you money:

I just recently got an ASET scope of my own and now I will never ever buy a diamond without assessing it, even if I go years between purchases. It's such great peace of mind to have and carry into any jewelry store.

I'm wondering if it's overly dark in day-to-day viewing. The table and these circled areas look quite dark to my eyes. A stone can be well cut and still show a greater than desirable amount of obstruction.

Thanks for the zoomed view, Kim N.
Is that windowing I'm seeing in those crown and pavilion areas?

I'm not sure, but I don't think so. I looked at the magnified video again, and I don't see any obvious leakage.

Thanks Kim, I agree with you as the stone's upper facets seem quite dark viewed from this angle. I may request to go back and have a proper look and take some more comprehensive pictures/videos to post

I've just purchased one so fingers crossed it comes soon, I'll take it with me to the next appointment and have a look at the stone - it would definitely give me more peace of mind too!
