hi everyone, I have been lurking on these very informative forums for the past few months, admiring (and drooling!) at all the bling bling !

My fiancee to be is ready to propose to me and knowing that I am a girl who likes to research the heck out of everything, he has sent me two GIA certs to choose from. The numbers seem alright but I am a little wary as he is buying from his uncle. I have also put the numbers in the HCA calculator, and they both have HCA scores of about 3, which to me seems to be really bad.

He was quoted $6400 for either of these two diamonds, and the setting would be an extra $900 for a simple tiffany 6 prong style set. His uncle told him it was a specially low price just for him.

I have not seen any of these diamonds as his uncle said they were in India or something and that once we confirm, he would fly them in.

I would be honoured if any of you lovely ladies could give me some expert comments on these as I really want my ring to be 'pricescope worthy' ! Thank you for reading!

oops forgot to put in the pics.

I would keep looking until you get something under 2.0 HCA.

Thank you both for your input, it confirmed my fears. I too do not believe in buying from close friends/relatives in case something goes wrong. I showed my fiancee-to-be this thread and he was put off as he wants to buy the best diamond he can for me as I will not be upgrading the stone.

We have been shopping around and there is a local B&M that we have been to who showed us these two diamonds. They actually knew what I was talking about with HCA and H&A arrows, and I communicated to them that I was looking for a well cut diamond.
again, specs look good, and to my uneducated eye the stones looked pretty good as well. HCA for both is about 0.8 or 0.9

I am leaning towards the cert dated 14 nov as it has only pinpoint under inclusions. Price is the same for both ($7600 with setting, including sales tax)

I would reiterate Chrono's sentiment about working with family. Seems like your boyfriend is willing to go outside the family to find you a stone that is perfect for you. I see you are looking at diamonds with an F colour grading & high clarity. You haven't specified what it is you actually want. Colour vs clarity vs size??

Jumping out of the box a bit, since you said the stone is a forever stone....I might consider this one..which is in your budget. Confirm is eye clean & I think its a contender. The stone is just a hair under the 1ct mark too. Plus..AGS certed as well. :appl:

Ooops..just saw the last cert you posted. It is a G, nice. Crown angle is a bit narrow but is one you should definitely consider as the price taxes in as well as setting is quite attractive. :)) In real life is probably a very sparkly stone. ;))
